The Los Angeles Dodgers’ winless run extended on Friday. The National League West side got walked off 4-3 by their division rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Following their 7th successive loss, manager Dave Roberts gave an honest reaction about losing on a walk-off hit.
The reigning World Series champions have hit a slump since last Friday. They first got swept by the red-hot Boston Red Sox at home before getting swept by the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Following a day off on Thursday, the Dodgers took on the Diamondbacks in Phoenix, Arizona. They fell behind quickly once again as a solo home run from Nolan Arenado put the D-backs in front. A triple from Geraldo Perdomo in the 5th inning made it a 2-0 game.
The Dodgers did come back to take the lead. A ground out from Freddie Freeman in the 6th inning, a single from Tommy Edman in the 7th, and a solo home run from Andy Pages in the 8th inning put them up 3-2.
In the bottom of the 9th inning, Edwin Diaz would replace Tanner Scott. The 3-time All-Star, who recently returned to the team following a stint on the injured list, gave up a walk to Max Kepler before striking out Tim Tawa.
He then went ahead 1-2 against Ryan Waldschmidt. On a 2-2 count, he then surrendered a home run. The D-backs star crushed a 2-run walk-off home run to lift his side and give them a 4-3 victory.

This was just the 2nd career home run for Waldschmidt. It was certainly a big one, as this home run handed the Dodgers their 7th straight loss.

During the post-game conference, Dave Roberts was asked whether this loss was a gut-wrenching one considering they got walked off. The 54-year-old proceeded to give an honest take and admitted it was not a good feeling.
A loss is a loss, but to get walked off never feels good. We didn’t play a clean game, a great game on either side of the baseball, but we did enough to put ourselves in a position to win a game. And unfortunately, we couldn’t finish it.

This skid has seen their record go from 69-40 to 69-47. This also marks a second straight season where they have lost 7 games in a row, having done so in July last year as well.
History is on the side of the Dodgers despite long losing streaks
The Los Angeles Dodgers have stumbled a bit since last week. They suffered their 7th successive loss on Friday as the Arizona Diamondbacks walked them off 4-3. While the team did match one of their longest losing streaks, history is on their side.

The Dodgers lost 7 games in a row last year as well. Following a series sweep of the Chicago White Sox in early July, they lost 7 games on the bounce as they got swept by the Houston Astros and the Milwaukee Brewers.
After losing 8-7 against the San Francisco Giants, they won 2-1 to break this barren run. They ended the 1st half of the season with another win over their rivals.
In the end, the Dodgers won the World Series last year. They took down the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in 11 innings in a historic Game 7 to repeat as champions.

Their longest losing streak since moving to LA is 11 games. They dropped 11 successive games in September 2017, which saw their record go from 92-41 to 92-52. In the end, they finished with a 104-58 record and reached all the way to the World Series, where they lost in Game 7 against the Houston Astros.
So while they are on a terrible run, they still are the favorites to reach another World Series. They still hold a 7.5-game lead at the top of the NL West division.
