Dave Roberts and the Los Angeles Dodgers steamrolled over the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2025 National League Championship Series (NLCS). After sweeping the NL Central champions, Roberts clapped back at the critics of his team with a savage “ruin baseball” comment.

The Dodgers have faced severe criticism regarding their spending. The LA side have not been shy of flexing their muscles and improving their team.

Their spending has led to many urging the league to implement a salary cap. Before the start of the series, MLB insider Jeff Passan expressed that a Dodgers victory would strengthen the shouts of a salary cap and could lead to a lockout in 2027, as MLB will have a meeting regarding the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) next winter.

Roberts, who has time and again defended his side, threw a massive shade at the critics of his team. During the celebration of their 2025 National League pennant victory, the Dodgers manager urged his team to win 4 more games to really “ruin baseball.”

Before this season started, they said the Dodgers are ruining baseball. Let’s get four more wins and really ruin baseball!

Last year, the Dodgers took down the New York Yankees in a dominating fashion. After winning the opening 3 games, they completed the job in Game 5 and clinched their 8th World Series championship.

They are now the first defending champions to enter the World Series since the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009. They are looking to become the first team to go back-to-back and claim successive World Series titles since the Yankees did it in 2000.

Dave Roberts commented on Dodgers “buying championships” narrative before Game 4

There had been plenty of mind games during this NLCS matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers. One of the talks was the “buying championships” narrative of the Dodgers. Before Game 4, manager Dave Roberts commented on this.

After winning the World Series last year, the Dodgers splashed the cash to bring in the likes of Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott, and handed contract extensions to Tommy Edman and Blake Treinen. All of this led to fans constantly attacking the NL West side over their spending ability.

While speaking to the reporters before the game, Roberts responded to a question regarding this narrative. The 53-year-old claimed the owners of the Dodgers put a big chunk of money back into the team.

We’re in a big market, we’re expected to win. I can’t speak to revenue we’re bringing but our ownership puts a big chunk into players and that’s the way it should be. Trying to be a competitor.

According to Spotrac, the Dodgers have a $350 million payroll in 2025. This is the highest payroll of any team this year. Their opponents from this series, the Milwaukee Brewers, were ranked 17th with a $121 million payroll.

Dave Roberts and his team will now wait and see who they go up against in the 2025 World Series. Before their victory over the Brewers, the Seattle Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays faced off in Game 5 of the ALCS.

The Mariners, who had won the opening 2 games, lost Games 3 and 4 at home. A game-tying home run from Cal Raleigh and a grand slam by Eugenio Suarez in the 8th inning led the Mariners to a 6-2 win and gave them a 3-2 lead.

A win for them on Sunday would see them reach their first World Series in franchise history. The Blue Jays could force a Game 7 with a triumph at home in Game 6.
