Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts hilariously comments on New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone’s text message during the press conference. Moments after landing in Los Angeles, Boone sent a Yankee emoji text to Roberts.
It didn’t take long for Roberts to think of an apt reply, but he just smiled and sent and “just gave him a laughing emoji back”. Their texts to each other created a light-hearted moment before the World Series curtain opens on Friday.
However, before sending Aaron Boone the laughing emoji, Dave Roberts had something else planned. That is not uncommon looking at their history over the last four decades.
You know what, there was another emoji I thought about sending him with one finger. But I didn’t. I just gave a laughing emoji back.

Boone took another shot at Roberts, saying:
You’re a Trojan for life, you’re a Bruin for four years. That’s probably the case with Doc. He’s probably like indifferent. I get pissed off when the Trojans lose. They’re like, eh, whatever.

"I'm a Trojan, so as we all know in here you're a Trojan for life. You're a Bruin for four years." ?

Boone disagreed. He commented:
Ouch. Ouch, that hurts…Absolutely disagree, 100 percent.

The history between these two goes back to collegiate days when both were playing for rival teams. Even after they retired from professional sports, they chose parallel lines of being a manager and have played against each other’s teams since then.
Although, it’ll be the first time in 43 years that the New York Yankees face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. It is also the first time since 2009 that pinstripes qualified for the big stage.
Aaron Boone and Dave Roberts admire each other despite bitter rivalry
While it may be true that NY Yankees Aaron Boone and LA Dodgers Dave Roberts can’t tolerate each other as rivals, where respect is deserved they both didn’t hesitate to talk about it. They both acknowledged each other’s leadership qualities and spoke about how their position is not that different despite being opponents.

Both the managers took heat from the fans this 2024, and many wondered whether they’d even have their jobs by the end of the year or not. But they turned the tables by qualifying for the World Series with extraordinary wins in the ALCS and NLCS.
Commenting on Roberts, Aaron Boone said:
He was a good player, somebody that I got to know a little bit at that point, just playing against him because he’s such a great guy. But I remember him well, leadoff hitter, left fielder for the Bruins. Fun times, fun days.

Aaron Boone (who went to USC) joked about his college days with Dave Roberts (who went to UCLA).

Dave Roberts on the other hand praised Boone noting:
We weren’t friends…I do recall they got the best of us back in the day, so it probably enhanced my distaste for him and the Trojans. But he was always a heck of a ballplayer.

The clock is ticking for the World Series opening, as players from both ends tighten their laces. There’ll undoubtedly be several eyes on the game, even from apart MLB, as the WS is to feature MLB’s top two teams against each other.
