The New York Yankees will need a bit of time to heal from the gut punch they got on Thursday in ALCS Game 3 against Cleveland Guardians. They were only a strike away from securing a 3-0 lead in the playoffs, but two star players from their rival team turned the game upside down.

Guardians utility player David Fry and first baseman Jhonkensy Noel propelled the team in the last innings to win the game 7-5 against the Yankees at Progressive Field. In the ninth inning, Noel smacked a two-run HR, setting the stage for Fry to seal their victory with a walk-off blast in the 10th inning.

Fry noted that he was bewildered for some time after the win, and didn’t know how to react. However, it wasn’t only him, but many thought it would be another Yankees victory giving them a 3-0 lead.

Bunts, bombs, and chaos…At that point I blacked out. I remember being like halfway down the first-base line looking back at the dugout and looking and saying, ‘All right, I just have to make sure I touch all four bases and get home and celebrate.’

With Thursday’s win, they’ll play Game 4 against the Yankees to try and snatch another victory for the team. Currently, the pinstripes are 2-1 in the American League Championship Series.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt comments on team’s win

While the Cleveland Guardians are celebrating their dramatic Game 3 win, the NY Yankees can’t help but relive their almost 3-0 moment on Thursday. Especially pitcher Clay Holmes who faced off against David Fry in the 10th inning.

Talking about their victory, Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said, “That’s who we are. We never quit.” He further appreciated both the team’s efforts saying they both played hard and deserved praise regardless of being in opposing teams.

That was an incredible game on both sides. All the emotions, ups and downs, back and forth, you name it. If there’s an emotion, we all felt it on both sides. I couldn’t be more proud of our guys.

He further praised the players who helped carried the team together throughout the tough regular season games to get a chance at the playoffs. The loss was hard for the Yanks as they would’ve been able to punch their ticket to World Series for the first time since 2009, had it not been for this game.
