Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James has made a sensational prediction for the 2020-21 premier league season. He believes Arsenal are the side to triumph this time out.
Now a pundit, James thinks the North Londoners inherit a squad with a winning mentality. They have it all to topple the supremacy of Liverpool and Manchester City in the league.
James tip Arsenal to win the title
Arsenal made a great start to the campaign with a 3-0 win over newly-promoted Fulham. New signings Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes starred in the victory. David James claims that the first match itself shows the cohesion the team is enjoying under Mikel Arteta.
“They looked fantastic against Fulham, arguably you would expect them to win, ” James spoke in an interview with the Garry Newbon Sport show on Punching TV.
‘I think Arteta’s got an opportunity with a gifted squad to go all the way. There’s no reason why they can’t do it, other than Manchester City and Liverpool reproducing the sort of form they’ve been doing over the last two years.’
David James also believes that Liverpool may come short this year with two heroic seasons. He appreciates the effort put in by Reds to claim the title they craved over 30 years.
“As everyone knows, winning the league is not easy,’ he added. ‘Winning the league twice is very, very difficult. When Liverpool have had almost two perfect seasons, you wonder whether they can reproduce that.
‘As a football follower I just like what Arteta’s doing and I think they’ve got the chance.’
Has Arsenal got it?
Mikel Arteta’s first full season at Arsenal will carry a lot of bollards. The Spaniard has a huge task to overturn their eighth-placed finish of last campaign. However, Arteta’s men played fine football to lift the FA Cup and securing place for Europa League group stage. They also won the Community Shield over Liverpool in the preseason preparation.
The Gunners already have Willian and Gabriel to bolster the squad with club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang renewing fresh term with the club. Hence, Arteta has a fully build team to place his tactics.
James may have predicted them as winners but for now, it will be a too high ambition for this Arsenal team. The Emirates Stadium based side certainly got the potential to defy all odds to claim the silverware but their main priority will be a top four berth.
