Former Atlanta Braves star David Justice found himself in hot water. The 3-time MLB All-Star recently made some controversial comments regarding his ex-wife, Halle Berry, which caused outrage among social media users.

During a recent “All the Smoke” podcast episode, Justice joined former NBA star Matt Barnes to discuss about his life. In this appearance on Thursday, the 2-time World Series winner opened up about his divorce from Berry in 1997.

In this, Justice would make some strong comments regarding her. The 59-year-old expressed that Berry did not help around the house much and did not seem like “motherly” to him at that time.

In my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean. Then I’m thinking, ‘OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with? At that time, as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly, and then we start having issues.

Berry, the Hollywood actress, and Justice started dating in 1992 after she first saw him during an MTV Celebrity game. After dating for a few months, the couple tied the knot a few hours after midnight on January 1, 1993. They would separate 3 years after their marriage in 1996 and finalized their divorce in 1997.

Following his divorce from Berry, Justice went on to marry Rebecca Villalobos in 2001. Villalobos, the CEO of Exotic Spices Calendars, has 3 children with Justice.

As for Berry, she married Eric Benet Jordan in 2001 and spent around four years with him before divorcing in 2005. 8 years later, she would marry French actor Olivier Martinez in 2013, but they ended up divorcing in 2016.

Following their divorce, the actress accused an unnamed ex of physical abuse. Justice would find himself under the backlash as his name would get connected. At the All the Smoke podcast, the 1990 National League Rookie of the Year, expressed that Berry could have handled this situation a bit better.

She let the world think it. She didn’t come out and say, ‘Nah, it wasn’t David. She let the world think that it was me. That I never appreciated with her. I thought she was dead wrong for that. I thought she should’ve handled that better.

Speaking of Justice, the American outfielder made his debut in 1989 with the Braves. After spending 8 seasons with the Braves and winning the World Series in 1995, he would join the Cleveland Indians (current Guardians) and spent 4 years with them.

In 2000, he joined the New York Yankees and was part of the World Series 3-peat team that year. Following a 2-year stay in the Bronx, he played one year with the Oakland Athletics and retired at the age of 36 after the 2002 season. He finished his career with 305 home runs, 1,017 RBIs in 1,610 games while having a .279 batting average.
