The Boston Bruins are heading home. On Friday, the team suffered a 4-1 loss in Game 6 against the Buffalo Sabres and got eliminated from the 1st round of the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs. Following their exit, David Pastrnak did not mince his words while reacting to this setback.

After their victory in 2011, the Boston-based side have suffered some huge defeats. They lost the 2013 Stanley Cup Final against the Chicago Blackhawks. In 2019, Pastrnak and his team were on the losing end once again as they lost in Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues.

In the 2022-23 season, the Bruins won the Presidents Cup, finishing with 135 points from 82 games. They were viewed as the favorites to go on and lift the cup.

However, they suffered a first-round exit at the hands of the Florida Panthers. This season, the team went 45-27-10 and finished 4th in the Atlantic Division. This saw them take on the Sabres, who were making their first playoff appearance since the 2010-11 season.

After dropping the first game 4-3, the Bruins leveled the series with a 4-2 win. They then suffered two big defeats as the Sabres crushed them 3-1 and 6-1 in Games 3 and 4, respectively.

With their season on the line in Game 5, the Bruins produced a 2-1 victory in overtime as Pastrnak scored the game-winner.

In Game 6, the Sabres landed the first blow as Alex Tuch scored with just three minutes left to silence the fans at TD Garden in Boston. Mattias Samuelsson doubled the lead later and put his side 2-0 up after the first period.

The Bruins cut the deficit in half in the second period and made it 2-1 game through Pastrnak. The alternate captain scored once again to keep the hopes of his team alive.

Despite his best efforts, the Czech Republic star was unable to help his team avoid defeats. Goals from Zach Benson and Josh Norris in the third period sealed a 4-1 win for the Sabres and saw them knock out the Bruins.

Following another disappointment in the playoffs, Pastrnak was left visibly frustrated. While speaking with the reporters after the game, the 29-year-old expressed that the opportunity to win the cup was getting harder with each year.

Of course it’s disappointing. I’m turning 30 in a couple weeks. Had one sniff at the Cup so far. It gets harder every single year. … You don’t want to waste any opportunity.

David Pastrnak said as per Scott McLaughlin

Pastrnak finished the regular season with 100 points (29 goals and 71 assists) from 77 games. In the playoff series against the Sabres, he had 7 points (3 goals and 4 assists) and was the top point scorer for the team.

Marco Sturm claims Bruins never got into flow in series against Sabres

The Boston Bruins were left empty-handed once again as the Buffalo Sabres knocked them out in Game 6 with a 4-1 victory. After this playoff loss, head coach Marco Sturm claimed that his side never got into the flow.

After exchanging blows in Games 1 and 2, the Sabres took control of the series with statement wins in Games 3 and 4. Over these two games, they outscored their opponents 9-2.

In the end, the Bruins managed to score just 12 goals in the series. The Sabres, on the other hand, put up 20 goals across the 6 games.

We never really got into the flow and Buffalo played solid. … We played a hell of a season because of the character we have in that room, and unfortunately, we came up short.

Marco Sturm told the reporters in the post-game interview

One thing that did not turn out well for the Bruins was their home form in the playoffs. After winning 29 games at TD Garden, the joint most wins at home along with the Carolina Hurricanes this season, they lost all 3 games against the Sabres in the first round.

Speaking of the Sabres, this was their first playoff series win since 2007. They will now take on either the Montreal Canadiens or the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round.
