After spending his entire 14-year MLB career with the New York Mets, David Wright will be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame on July 19 at Citi Field. After being drafted by the Mets in 2001, he played for the team till 2018 as health forced him to quit early on.
Learning of his induction in HOF, Wright spoke about how he went to the World Series for the first time in 2015 but later lost to the Kansas City Royals. He hopes the team has another chance at the Fall Classic after their historic signing of outfielder Juan Soto in free agency.
Juan Soto penned a massive 15-year $765 million deal with the New York Mets after being in the spotlight all throughout free agency. His contract easily stands out as the largest in MLB history and was the talk of the baseball world for quite a while.
Now with the Mets securing one of the top players from the market, David Wright believes there’s a high chance for them to reach the World Series again. He credited owner Steve Cohen for not being shy of spending and doing their best to win the games at all costs.
"The will to win within the organization is incredible. The goal is not just to win one championship, it's to go on a run and win multiple championships…I couldn't be more excited for 2025."

Wright said that this win-it-all perspective vastly differs from the one he experienced last in 2018. The Mets are now focused on winning the championship game not just once but multiple times. He feels this winning mentality is what will drive them forward.
David Wright hopes Pete Alonso stays with the Mets for life
Being a one-team player throughout his MLB career, former baseman David Wright believes it’ll be great if Pete Alonso does the same. While he respects Alonso for looking into the financial aspect and making the best of it, he feels wearing the same jersey throughout your career is emotional and honorable.
Pete Alonso’s free agency has been in the spotlight for a while since his agent Scott Boras mentioned how they are looking for a long-term deal with stable financial backing. Currently, Alonso and the NY Mets are not on the same terms which has been the reason for a hold up.
David Wright speaks on Pete Alonso's future and how much it meant to him personally to play for one team in his career:

"It's a different feeling when you're drafted, developed, and playing for the team that gave you your first opportunity. There's a little more – maybe a lot… pic.twitter.com/qOzjGZwFzb
However, Alonso turned down Mets offer of 7-year $158 million back in 2023 and it’s unlikely they’ll offer more or the same right now. Just like Wright, the 30-year-old has become one of the faces of the franchise. The fans are hoping for him to stay with the Mets too, but with how things are progressing it seems unlikely.
