However, everything has not gone as planned for the 22-time Grand Slam champion. He has posted a modest 12-7 win-loss record so far this season.

That said, Nadal is known to play his best tennis at the Davis Cup. Since his debut in 2004, he has won 29 matches and lost only once. The last time he lost at the event was in his debut year. The Mallorcan has also won the event four times so far.

On the other hand, Botic Van de Zandschulp has been a stable member of the Dutch team recently. Since making his debut in 2019, he has won 10 singles matches and lost six while having a 2-1 win-loss record in the doubles.

In September, his win against Belgium earned the Netherlands a slim advantage to qualify despite losing 1-2. This season, the World No. 80 has had shaky form and holds a 16-25 record.

Van de Zandschulp scored one of his biggest upsets in recent memory by beating Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets at the US Open. He didn’t last long in the Grand Slam though, as he lost to Jack Draper in the third round.

Nadal and Van de Zandschulp have struggled with injuries since they last met. However, the former is the favorite to beat the Dutch star. He will also have the backing of the vociferous home crowd and is motivated to end his career on a good note. The only advantage Van de Zandschulp has going into the contest is that he is physically fitter than Nadal.

Match Prediction: Rafael Nadal to win in straight sets.
