Virat Kohli, along with some of the other Indian batters, had a horrendous Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in Australia. Kohli struggled with his technique and consistently nicked outside the off-stump deliveries. Former Indian cricketers and critics stated that star cricketers not playing domestic cricket consistently has caused issues with the performances of the Indian batters in Test cricket.

Kohli faced issues against both pace and spin. He also had a poor run of form while playing against the spinners on turning tracks in the home series against New Zealand. So, it looks like the Indian cricketers, along with Kohli, will be back playing domestic cricket.

Rishabh Pant and the former Indian captain have been named in the probable list, as confirmed by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma.

Sharma stated that Kohli should take inspiration from Mumbai cricketers and play domestic cricket for Delhi, as per his availability. He also added that Delhi misses the culture of their Indian players turning up for domestic cricket when they are available.

Both Virat and Rishabh’s names are in the probable list. The Ranji Trophy camp is underway. Virat should take inspiration from the Mumbai cricketers and play for Delhi in domestic cricket whenever he is available. See in Mumbai, there has always been a culture where their India players turn up for Ranji matches whenever available. It is missing in the North, especially in Delhi.

Ashok Sharma said as per Indian Express

Ashok Sharma feels that Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant should play at least one game for Delhi

Sharma stated that Kohli and Pant should feature in at least one game for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy, but he is not sure whether they will be part of the match. The DDCA president, Rohan Jaitley, also stated that Kohli and Pant have still not informed DDCA about their decision to play for Delhi in a Ranji Trophy game.

In regard to whether we have reached out or not, I am sure the selectors and the CAC are the ones who would be in touch and coordinating things, so it is something that they would be far better equipped to respond on.

The selectors and the BCCI have informed the Indian cricketers that they need to play domestic cricket after the disastrous tour of Australia. It remains to be seen how many of them do include themselves in their respective squads for the Ranji Trophy.
