Deebo Samuel, at his best, poses a big threat to any team. For that exact reason, Jayden Daniels was ecstatic when the Washington Commanders traded for the Pro Bowl wide receiver. However, there’s one rival team that does not fear the 29-year-old. It’s none other than the Philadelphia Eagles.

Recently, streamer and staunch Commanders’ supporter Janky Rondo caught up with retired Eagles legend Brandon Graham at DeVonta Smith’s celebrity softball game at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown. Graham and Rondo argued about which team is the favorite to dominate the NFC.

Rondo obviously backed the Commanders, who nearly took down the Graham’s Eagles in the NFC Championship game last year. He further reminded his veteran counterpart about the presence of Deebo Samuel on his team.

After Rondo finished babbling, Graham threw a strong punchline by taking a swipe at Samuel.

I wouldn’t worry about him. He gotta be in shape first—he don’t look like he in shape right now.

Brandon Graham fired back

Rondo was speechless after hearing Graham’s reply, while everyone else around them could not contain their laughter.

Graham’s joke may sound like harmless banter, but in reality, Samuel faced a barrage of trolls earlier this month after a training ground video went viral on Twitter. Fans complained that Samuel’s physique made him run slower than they had seen in the past.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, who shared a locker room with Samuel for a number of years, stepped in to shield his former teammate from the trolls by explaining the methodology behind the drill that the Pro Bowler was seen practicing. The Commanders’ linebacker Bobby Wagner threw in his support as well.

Former NFL quarterback doesn’t believe Deebo Samuel is the missing link for the Commanders to catch the Eagles

Terry McLaurin served as the main receiver for rookie Jayden Daniels in 2024. McLaurin played every game, crossing 1000 yards and racking up a career-high 13 touchdowns. However, most of the heavy lifting was done by the 24-year-old Daniels, who won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award by contributing 31 touchdowns with a passer rating of 100.1.

McLaurin presently has one foot out the door due to contract disputes. The Commanders predicted this might happen and traded for Samuel as insurance. But will he solve their issue? Retired NFL quarterback turned analyst Dan Orlovsky doesn’t think so.

I don’t think they can fall into the trap thinking they’re that close. Five wins on the last play of the game, essentially. That’s not likely in the NFL. While they’re encouraged and intriguing, they’re not one move, one Deebo Samuel, away from chasing down Philadelphia. There are still flaws in this roster that they’ve got to have a very much so, attack mindset, and not rest on the success of last year’s mindset.

Fortunately for the Commanders fans, Daniels doesn’t share the same opinion as Orlovsky. The second-year quarterback is a fan of Samuel.

I’m excited to throw him a screen, and hopefully on the stat sheet it says a touchdown for 80 yards, and I didn’t have to do any of the work.

Jayden Daniels said during Fanatics Fest

Samuel played 15 games in 2024. Due to a shortage of players in the Niners’ roster because of injuries, he had to play a few different positions, which affected his numbers. Despite starting 15 games, Samuel caught 51 passes for 670 yards and three touchdowns while rushing 42 times for one score.
