After last season’s triumph, the San Francisco 49ers concluded this season on a disheartening note. Compounding their disappointment, the Kansas City Chiefs, who defeated them in the Super Bowl last season, have now secured their third consecutive Super Bowl appearance. In light of this, Deebo Samuel has chosen to support the Chiefs’ opponents despite the challenge of rooting for any team other than his own.

In the latest edition of his Cleats & Convos with Deebo Samuel podcast, the All-Pro wide receiver made his Super Bowl allegiance clear: he’s rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles to defeat the Chiefs. Keeping aside the complex relationships shared with both the teams– having faced off against the Eagles in previous playoffs, Samuel extended his support for Eagles’ AJ Brown

They [Kansas City Chiefs] beat me twice so I got all the reason to hate. It’s the Chiefs and the Eagles, you know I got a love hate for both, but I got all the love for my brother AJ Brown over there, so I definitely want to see him win. I definitely don’t want to see [Patrick] Mahomes get the third one.

Deebo Samuel said

The Stakes are high for Kansas City, as they are vying for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title. The 49ers’ veteran wideout, however, is determined to prevent Patrick Mahomes from achieving this milestone. This time, since he can’t defeat them himself, he is certain the Eagles can with Saquon Barkley and Brown.

Deebo Samuel opens up about mental health struggles following Super Bowl loss to Chiefs

The Niners have faced the Chiefs twice in the Super Bowl in the last five years and suffered defeats on both occasions in 2019 and 2023. But more than ever before, last season’s Super Bowl loss at the hands of the Chiefs really affected Samuel’s mental health and it took him several months to recover from the tragic loss.

Not going to lie, losing a Super Bowl, it puts you in depression. You go months without talking to people, [not] wanting to be seen. Losing the Super Bowl is one of the worst feelings ever. Think about it in our position; we just went through camp, we just went through the whole season, we got here, we lose.

Deebo Samuel admitted on St. Brown Podcast, earlier this month

Coming from that defeat, where the 49ers finished the 2024 season with a losing 6-11 record, the Chiefs dominated the entire AFC with 15-2 and now qualified for their fifth Super Bowl appearance in the last six years.
