It has been less than a week since Deebo Samuel was hospitalized with symptoms of pneumonia. The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver is feeling better than before but remains on daily observation.

After the doctors let Samuel go on Tuesday, he rejoined the 49ers’ practice. He was present during both Thursday and Friday’s training sessions. Reporters finally got the chance to speak with him on Friday and asked him when the symptoms first started to appear.

Honestly, I couldn’t breathe at all. And I didn’t really know what was wrong until the game. [When] Kinda when I was at the pre-game warmups and I kinda like had no energy to run or anything for a while.

The all-pro wideout has previously claimed that he has hospital anxiety, so the sudden visit freaked him out a little.

It was scary. It was hard to breathe, and you can’t take deep breaths, so amidst amidst I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ and then we found out what was wrong after the game… [Honestly] I have hospital anxiety. I don’t like being in the hospital, but whatever it took for me to get better, I am all for it.

Will Deebo Samuel play against the Dallas Cowboys?

Following their devastating loss to the Chiefs, the 49ers sit with a 3-4 record and are about to play the Dallas Cowboys next. They are short on several positions, but none more so in the offense. Besides Jacob Cowing and Ricky Pearsall, the starting wide receivers all have injuries.

Brandon Aiyuk is out for the year, Jauan Jennings is doubtful, and all-pro running back Christian McCaffrey’s status is still questionable. Samuel’s availability would be a crucial boost for the team.

We’ve gone slow with him. We didn’t push him that hard knowing what the issue is but it has gotten better each day, and that’s why I’m hoping that continues for Sunday.

Head Coach Kyle Shanahan said

When the reporters asked Samuel the same question, he replied, “(The practice) has been pretty solid… [So] we’ll see.”

Samuel has had a mixed-bag start to the season. He did not record any catches or yards before being ruled out for the Chiefs game. So far, this season he has caught 20 passes for 335 yards and 1 touchdown.
