Following the commendable success last season, the San Francisco 49ers’ downfall this season hasn’t been easy to witness. After losing three of their last five games, they have dropped to a 5-6 season standing, casting doubt on their playoff hopes and putting head coach Kyle Shanahan on the hot seat.
Upon hearing the speculations about the Niners head coach being on the hot seat, wide receiver Deebo Samuel was taken aback as he couldn’t believe his ears. In the recent episode of the Cleats and Convos With Deebo Samuel podcast, Samuel gave rest to the swirling rumors surrounding the future of Shanahan.
While acknowledging this season’s struggle, the veteran receiver reflected on the success of the team under Shanahan.
“I don’t think so,” Samuel told his co-host Liv Moods when asked if Shanahan is indeed on the hot seat.

"Super Bowl… NFC Championship. Year after that: NFC Championship again. Last year: Super Bowl… Why are you saying he's on the hot seat?"

Despite the 5-6 season, which may seem like a losing season, the Pro Bowler receiver expressed optimism, noting that there are still six or seven games left and the 49ers still have a chance to bounce back and make it to the playoffs.
Kyle Shanahan focuses on Bills amidst grim playoff outlook
Coming off their worst defeat against the Green Bay Packers since 2018, head coach Shanahan is focused on the upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills. He knows the grim playoff chances his team has amid the back-to-back losses.
According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, San Francisco only has a 17% chance of qualifying for the postseason and even a slimmer 13.6% chance of winning the divisional title. The Arizona Cardinals, who finished last season with a 4-13 record and ranked lowest in their division, are currently enjoying a better season, while the 49ers find themselves at the bottom of the divisional standings.
