IPL 2021: WATCH – MS Dhoni ignores Deepak Chahar’s vehement suggestion for a review
MS Dhoni and Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar ripped through the Punjab Kings (PBKS) top-order yesterday as his four-wicket burst in his opening spell helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a facile win. The win helped CSK to jump from 8th in the table to 2nd while PBKS dropped from 2nd to 7th as a result of the big net run-rate boost that the former got due to the match finishing in under 16 overs in the second innings.
Chahar was the architect of the win as he kicked things off with a superb first over, sending back Mayank Agarwal with a beautiful out-swinger. After KL Rahul got himself run-out to Ravindra Jadeja‘s bullet throw, Chris Gayle was dismissed by a knuckle ball from Chahar. The pacer then went on to remove Nicholas Pooran for a duck with a bouncer before sending back Deepak Hooda in the 7th over.

Arguably the best over of Deepak Chahar’s spell was the 5th over where he accounted for two of the most dangerous West Indian batsmen in Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran. After having the latter caught at long leg with a surprise bouncer, Shahrukh Khan walked to the crease. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder was immediately rapped on the pads off his first delivery and Chahar went for a vociferous appeal.
When the umpire did not signal out, a convinced Chahar made his case to skipper MS Dhoni to take a review. In fact, Chahar had started running soon after the batsman had been hit on his pad, being so confident that it was out. However, the skipper was not convinced at all and asked Chahar to go back and bowl. The bowler then had a smile on his face. Later, replays showed that the umpire and Dhoni were right as the ball was missing the stumps on account of height.
CSK face Rajasthan Royals next on the 19th of April.
