After a nearly decade-long struggle, the Colorado Buffaloes qualified for their first Bowl eligibility following a 34-23 victory against the Cincinnati Bearcats. Instead of gloating over the 6-2 season success, head coach Deion Sanders won many hearts with his beautiful gesture toward a 99-year-old Colorado superfan.
After becoming Big 12 contenders for the next month, the first thing that Coach Prime did was call Colorado superfan Peggy Coppom, also known as Miss Peggy, whom he promised at the start of the season about qualifying for the Bowl. And he indeed kept his promise with the sixth victory of the season.
With his one phone call to Miss Peggy, Sanders showed how much the 99-year-old superfan means to the team. He and Colorado Athletic Director Rick George expressed their gratitude for all her support and told her that she would be attending the Bowl game.
Coach Prime even hinted that the team might be arranging special travel accommodations for Miss Peggy by saying they aren’t putting her on “a regular plane.” This success achieved by the Buffaloes is not just a team milestone but also reflects the dedication and unwavering support of its fans as Peggy.
Miss Peggy’s special bond with Coach Prime Deion Sanders
Miss Peggy has supported the Buffaloes since 1945 and has witnessed over 3,000 games in her life. However, she never connected with any head coach the way she did with Coach Prime. She has great respect for him and considers their bond ‘special.’
During an interview with USA Today, the Colorado superfan opened up about her special bond with Sanders, expressing that she considers him a good friend. She also praised him for expressing “his faith in God and all those things” and admitted sharing some similar qualities with him.
Now that the team is qualified for the Bowl game, Sanders and his team intend to make the game more high-profile, especially since both its star players Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
