With the initial buzz of the free agency trades dying down, the attention has once again fallen completely on the upcoming NFL Draft 2025. The Annual Player Selection Meeting is scheduled to be hosted between the days of 24th and 26th of April in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
In the last few weeks, the storylines and speculations have shifted many gears. Shedeur Sanders, Colorado Buffaloes quarterback, found his draft stock fall even to the second round. Meanwhile, Abdul Carter has moved to the first overall according to many analysts and insiders.
The Heisman winner, Travis Hunter, has also come across similar challenges – the Kansas City Tight end, Travis Kelce, questioning the young two-way player’s ability to be the same person he was in college.
One of the key points about Hunter was the two-way options he provided to teams. Hunter, not only could play as an offensive wideout but also shine in a defensive role as well. Although, they will have to strategize accordingly and sew game plans as per the utilization of Hunter’s abilities, the teams aren’t going to skip out on the generational talent.
However, as mentioned above, a larger chunk of people remain unwelcome to the idea. They are also pointing out that it has never happened because of how difficult it is to manage something like that.
Appearing on the NFL Network, Hunter’s head coach at the Buffs, Deion Sanders, came to his defense. Sanders pointed out that any team should try to maximize the skill set brought by a player instead of conforming them.
He doesn’t know any other way. What else would he do, just sit there by the water cooler while the offense is getting their butts kicked, and you’ve got the best receiver probably on your team over there with the coach waiting for his turn to go back on the field? That doesn’t make sense to me. Just because a person hasn’t done this in the majority of the NFL, don’t say what another man can’t do.

Travis Hunter draft dilemma: Jets seem a top contender for the two-way player
The changes in the storyline have brought some major shifts in the draft projections. Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders, and Cam Ward were three of the highly projected top three draft picks. As per the current goings on in the league, it seems highly unlikely that they will be drafted in those positions.

In a surprising turn, Mike Band of NFL.com now predicts that the New York Jets will trade up from No. 7 to No. 5, striking a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jets are apparently proposing to offer their seventh overall pick and a 2025 third-round selection. This move would position Hunter in a unique role, allowing him to showcase his rare ability on both sides of the ball.
The Jets need help opposite Garrett Wilson at receiver and Sauce Gardner at cornerback, making New York an ideal spot for Hunter to showcase his rare two-way talent. It would be fitting for former Jets corner/current head coach Aaron Glenn to select a ball-hawking playmaker with his first pick on the job.

Hunter’s standout 2024 season with Colorado saw him record 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns as a receiver while also making a defensive impact with 35 tackles, a forced fumble, four interceptions, and 11 defended passes as a cornerback.
With the draft picture shifting, his potential selection by the Jets highlights a new reality where the top prospects are no longer guaranteed their once-expected landing spots.
