Deion Sanders coached Travis Hunter to win the Heisman Trophy, and now he’s calling out the Jacksonville Jaguars for not making the best use of his skills. He wants the AFC South franchise to start giving their unicorn more reps.

The 2-1 Jaguars’ next opponents are the San Francisco 49ers. A win against the NFC team will improve the Jags’ record to 3-1 (first 3-1 start since 2018).

Hunter will undoubtedly play a significant role in making that dream a reality. Hunter’s former Colorado head coach, Deion Sanders, believes that the Jags stand a better chance of defeating the Niners if he’s more involved in the game.

They’re [Jaguars] not using him enough. I’ve seen it with my own eyes on an everyday basis for three straight years, so I know what he’s capable of, and I know how you’ve got to take care of him. He never practices on Tuesday. He practices on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday… He was ready to play a hundred and some snaps on Saturday, so you didn’t need to use him on a Tuesday or a Monday. You don’t use him like that.

Deion Sanders told Travis and Jason Kelce on the New Heights podcast

According to Pro Football Focus, Travis Hunter played 59 percent of Jacksonville’s offensive snaps and 47 percent of defensive snaps. As its byproduct, Hunter logged 10 catches for 76 yards and 9 total tackles.

Week 3 turned out to be Hunter’s best outing to date. He played nearly 70% of snaps on defense and 37% on offense.

Head coach Liam Coen sat down with Hunter after the Texans game to discuss methods to improve his snap count. Right now, putting Hunter in the best position to make plays is the way to go.

I don’t think it’s fair right now to say, ‘Hey dude, go learn Z [receiver], and X, and 12, and this and that.’ It’s like, man, we’ve got to make sure he can really go and execute what we’re asking him to do first and foremost, which is play F and play corner. So, I think as we go and as he goes, I’ve got to believe that it’ll continue to do this [upwards motion].

First-year head coach Coen drafted ex-Colorado player Hunter second overall after making a trade with the Cleveland Browns. During his final year in Colorado, Hunter recorded 96 catches for 1258 yards on offense and 36 total tackles, 11 pass deflections, and 4 interceptions on defense.

How to watch the Jaguars-49ers game?

The Jags have faced the Niners on seven different occasions in the past, with the NFC giants leading the series 5-2.

The 49ers are 3-0 with wins over the Seattle Seahawks, the Arizona Cardinals, and the New Orleans Saints. Brock Purdy missed the last two games due to injury but is expected to be available for the Jaguars fixture. Mac Jones deputized in Purdy’s absence, throwing for 563 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 picks.
