The buzz around the NFL Draft is at an all-time high, with speculations, rumors, and bold projections flying in from every direction like a Seeker in a Quidditch game. And, it’s nowhere near slowing down.

Shedeur Sanders, son of former Dallas Cowboys star Deion ‘Prime’ Sanders, is one of the biggest names in the upcoming draft. The Colorado Buffaloes and Jackson State product was initially expected to be picked in the top three picks before the draft stock tanked to 9th and 10th picks. Subsequently, there were even rumors of him being drafted in the second round.

However, with Prime rock-solid behind his son, it is very unlikely that Shedeur Sanders will go beyond the first round. Deion Sanders has expressed a desire for Shedeur not to be drafted by certain teams, although he hasn’t pointed out which they are.

Deion has now brought the conversation down even smaller. In an appearance at the ProMat 2025, Marshall Green revealed that the senior Sanders has identified a New York team as the potential destination for his son. “Let’s hope it’s New York,” he reportedly said.

However, it is very debatable whether Deion Sanders said it or not. As it stands, it is unclear whether Deion was pointing at the New York Giants or the New York Jets. Although previous evidence points to the Giants, the Jets are also looking for a successor after they parted ways with four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. The Giants will pick third while the Jets will pick seventh at the upcoming draft.

The New York Giants finished the season last in the NFC East with just three wins. Meanwhile, the New York Jets were a bit better with five wins. Nevertheless, it is ironic to call a team with a 14-year playoff drought a bit better than the Giants, who managed a playoff two years ago.

Deion Sanders might be compromising in his preferences amid the lowering draft value

Deion Sanders’ alleged preference for Shedeur Sanders to land in New York has sparked a debate. While some view it as a strategic move, others see it as an attempt to reset expectations regarding Shedeur’s draft stock.

247 Sports’ Barry McBride took a different angle on the whole debacle. He suggested that it reflects a shift in Sanders’ thinking about where his son might be drafted.

We should instead take it as Deion Sanders compensating, or at least lowering expectations, regarding where his son is likely to be drafted. My guess here would be that Sanders has turned his expectations from Cleveland (a previous favorite object of Shedeur’s Madden affections) to New York based on his sense that the Browns will go in another direction. He’s gone to option #3 based on the prevailing winds.

McBride wrote, adding that Sanders may have moved on from the Cleveland Browns as a realistic destination. According to McBride, Sanders’ shift in focus suggests he believes the Browns will pass on Shedeur.

McBride’s take highlighted a possible change from the Sanders camp, positioning Shedeur as a strong prospect while managing the public’s expectations. Whether this shift is strategic or simply a reaction to changing projections, Shedeur’s draft trajectory is yet to be seen.
