Shedeur Sanders is fortunate to have an older brother like Deion Sanders Jr., who’s always ready to clap back at haters online in his defense. On Monday, the NFL selected Shedeur for the 2025-26 Pro Bowl after Drake Maye backed out.

Maye doesn’t have time to indulge in flag football when he has a Super Bowl to focus on. That’s because the Patriots are set to take on the Seahawks for gridiron football’s biggest prize on February 8.

With Maye backing out, the NFL had to add a different player. The committee settled on Shedeur Sanders. Even though the Pro Bowl no longer draws as much attention as it once did, for newcomers, the chance to appear in a postseason event is still an honor.

However, not everyone viewed it through the same lens and called out the NFL for picking the soon-to-be 24-year-old signal caller. Sanders Jr. stepped in to intervene, choosing a distinctive way to voice his thoughts.

DSJ posted a clip from Boondocks, a critically acclaimed animated series that focuses on an African-American family. In the clip, Thugnificent (a parody of rapper Ludacris) asks, “What did he do to make them ni*** mad?

Emmanuel Acho calls the Pro Bowl games “laughable” following Shedeur Sanders’ selection

On paper, Sanders didn’t do enough to rub shoulders with Travis Kelce or Jalen Ramsey. The Browns played Dillon Gabriel over the Colorado product for a chunk of last season before making the switch.

And even after becoming the starter, Sanders struggled to adapt to the pace of the NFL. In 8 appearances, Sanders threw for 1400 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He was also sacked 23 times (most in that stretch of games). The Browns went 3-4.

His selection in the Pro Bowl games caught everyone by surprise. Former Emmanuel Acho called the entire process “laughable” on the Speakeasy podcast. He said:

The Pro Bowl is something that has become laughable, and we can’t say it’s a Shedeur Sanders issue, but Shedeur is the latest poster child for it.

Acho’s former FS1 colleague, however, presented a different view. Skip Bayless, onetime host of the Undisputed, hinted that including Sanders in the Pro Bowl is a smart move by the NFL.

Sanders undoubtedly generated a spark off the field during his rookie season in Cleveland. The Browns regained a significant boost in game viewership when Sanders took over as QB1. There’s no question that Sanders is a crowd puller.

It hasn’t been confirmed, but the Browns should stick with Sanders as their starter in 2026. But before the season starts, they must appoint a new head coach. Kevin Stefanski was sacked shortly after week 18, and the Browns are still searching for a new face.
