Deion Sanders has been watching how the Cleveland Browns have managed his son, Shedeur Sanders, ever since they stopped his 2025 draft free-fall in the 5th round.
The franchise’s top brass were seemingly not interested. It seems owner Jimmy Haslam wanted to capitalize on the Colorado quarterback’s fame. So far, that has worked as the Browns have enjoyed a lot of media coverage.
Sometimes, that coverage does come with its drawbacks, as they have experienced recently when the rookie QB started talking about how he is ready to become their starting QB.
The franchise, however, decided it was better that Dillon Gabriel led them in their Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings. That decision has irked the 23-year-old star as well as those who support him.
After their fourth loss of the season, many questioned whether the Cleveland Browns’ coaches really wanted to win games, as it was apparent that Gabriel was restricted on his throws.
A few hours later, the team traded away season-opener, Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, who are going through a QB crisis of their own. When reporters asked Deion Sanders about this trade at the University of Colorado facilities, he said:
I don’t give a darn about the Browns. At all. I care about the Colorado Buffaloes… I do love me some Shedeur Sanders though, believe that, I care about him. The rest of them, I don’t.

His answer suggests he is not bothered by the trade news, especially since it does not have a direct impact on his son, Shedeur Sanders. If and when he gets news of his son starting, he will take interest.
Shedeur Sanders praises Joe Flacco after trade
The news of Joe Flacco’s trade would mean that it brings Shedeur Sanders closer to a chance to play for the Cleveland Browns. Until his exit, the rookie QB was still their third option.

But after the trade, the franchise officially announced that their 5th round pick was being promoted to QB2. When FOX8 News caught up with the Texas native at a car dealership, they asked what he thought about the trade.
He is definitely somebody I leaned on for wisdom. He helped me a lot in my time in Cleveland. Now, everyone has their own destinies, and their own plans in life. I’m just happy for him.

The Colorado star then talked about how the veteran QB would be missing the smile that broke on his face whenever the rookie cracked jokes in their meetings.
Skip Bayless bats for Shedeur Sanders to take over as Browns starter
The trade eased some concerns about whether Shedeur Sanders would ever get a chance to play this season. Now as QB2, he might get that opportunity sooner than later.
However, longtime sports analyst and friend of Deion Sanders, Skip Bayless, believes the latter’s son would have played to win, unlike how Dillon Gabriel did in the closing moments of their Week 5 loss.
Shedeur is way better than Dillon Gabriel. If Shedeur had started from the start, game one against Cincinnati, they (Browns) would be the talk of the NFL right now.
Skip Bayless said on The Arena
Bayless added that Sanders would have improvised on head coach Kevin Stefanski‘s play call and tried to win the game. That is the hallmark of a good quarterback, unlike Gabriel, who Bayless thinks played to not lose.
“If Shedeur had started from the start, game one against Cincinnati. [Browns] would be the talk of the NFL.”

The 73-year-old believes the Browns would have had a far different record than the 1-4 they are facing now. He believes Sanders would have changed the franchise’s destiny with his sheer will to win.
