Deion Sanders made a U-turn on his son Shedeur Sanders’ future in the NFL. The Colorado head coach is okay with whichever team drafts him in April.

The NFL Draft is just around the corner, and the buzz around Shedeur Sanders’ NFL future projection is a mixed bag. While draft experts Daniel Jeremiah and Mel Kiper listed Sanders as a top-three pick, veteran college football websites such as PFSN projected Sanders slipping down the draft.

Sanders met with the brass of several NFL teams that remain interested in him and will meet with the Titans and the Browns in the upcoming days. Coach Prime spoke with his son and has a rough idea of the inner workings of his mind.

Shedeur told me he’s talked to me intently about all the visits he’s had with all the team so I know where his heart is; I know where he wants to go.

The Giants are the likeliest destination for Sanders, and analysts view New York as the best place for the former Colorado and Jackson State quarterback. Analysts are slowly moving away from that route after Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen signed Russell Wilson.

Wilson’s addition doesn’t guarantee anything. The New York Post’s Paul Schwartz still believes the Giants will draft a quarterback, and it will be Shedeur Sanders.

A quarterback is definitely still in play. When you sign a 36-year-old to a one-year contract, what you mean is you want him to play this year; you have Jameis Winston as a backup, but you want to look ahead and maybe get a quarterback in the draft. The Giants have the No. 3 pick; I would say that Shedeur Sanders is probably and definitely in play if he is available. Cam Ward will probably go to the Titans.

Sanders’ interview with Bayless appeared as a timely affair. The situation is very different from two months earlier. Most mock drafts projected Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Sanders as the first two picks. Yet as the drafts come closer, Miami’s Cam Ward and Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter are the likeliest candidates to be off the board as one and two.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, on the other hand, projected Sanders sliding down as far as 21 and landing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Shedeur Sanders’ is not a first-round quarterback for a lot of NFL teams, which isn’t a major surprise [and matches my evaluation]. But all it takes is one front office to roll the dice on his skill set. If Sanders falls out of the top 10, this would be an interesting landing spot. The Steelers are searching for answers at the QB position.

Dane Brugler wrote

This is a worrisome trend for Shedeur Sanders, who performed exceptionally during his final year in Colorado. He completed 74% of his passes for 4134 yards, 41 overall touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, leading the Bulldogs to a 9-4 finish (the program’s highest finish since 2016).

Brugler’s colleague Derrick Klassen wrote that Sanders is a good quarterback prospect, but he has limitations.

Sanders is a quarterback prospect who can execute an offense but not elevate one.

Derrick Klassen wrote

It’s not a bad thing. There are plenty of ‘game managers’ in the league, like Geno Smith and Kirk Cousins, surviving for close to a decade.

Now everything depends on the draft, and Deion Sanders has no issue with where Shedeur Sanders gets drafted.

If it’s New York [Giants], it’s New York. If it’s Tennessee [Titans], if it’s Cleveland [Browns], if it’s still the [Las Vegas] Raiders, if it’s New Orleans [Saints], if it’s any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback I’m happy with it man cause I know what he’s gonna do to the organization.

Prime essentially pivoted from his earlier stance on Sanders’ draft. The Hall of Famer initially was against Shedeur playing for a team where the chances of a successful career turn out to be limited. If a team that fits the category drafted Sanders, then Prime would interfere and, similar to Eli Manning, ask for a trade to a team where the circumstances are favorable and suitable to his skill set.

Sanders accepted his son’s fate but didn’t specify whether he might pull an Eli or not. That remains to be seen.
