DeRozan’s praise for Caruso comes due to a reason: his effectiveness against opponents. The primary reason the Thunder are aiming for an even series rather than a 3-1 deficit is that their sixth man has been all over the NBA Finals series.
According to StatMuse, Caruso became the second player in NBA history to complete a Finals game with more than 20 points, five steals, and a shooting percentage of 75% or higher after finishing Game 4 with 20 points, three rebounds, and five steals while shooting 77.8% from the field.
On the other hand, DeRozan has been in the spotlight ever since he was a top high school recruit and entered the NBA as the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. The six-time All-Star credits his decisions off the court for his long and successful career.
Both stars have a great bond on and off the court. DeRozan’s recent praise also showcases the appreciation the former Bulls star holds for Caruso. That said, it remains to be seen if Caruso chimes in on this topic in the future.

One thing I really appreciate about my time in Chicago was definitely my teammates. My dog AC. That’s my favorite… gotta put this out here,” DeRozan added. Caruso is probably my top 3 favorite teammates of all time.

DeRozan’s remarks were made following his trade to the Sacramento Kings this offseason, but he still maintains a close bond with his former Bulls teammates, particularly Caruso. It’s a year-round thing. For me, it goes back to making sacrifices I don’t go out, I don’t drink. Never had a drink in my life. Not saying nothing wrong with it. I just always looked at from a standpoint of, like, my whole goal of hooping was, like, I want to be able to play as long as I can.
