DeMar DeRozan
The 6-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan has been making headlines lately after securing his move to the Sacramento Kings in a sign-and-trade deal, signing a three-year deal for $74 million. Notably, DeRozan has also been quite busy off the court, featuring in the famous American musician Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us” music video.
Interestingly, the Kings welcomed their new star with Lamar’s “Not Like Us” song playing in the background in front of the Sacramento crowd. The agreement brings the Kings right under the salary cap’s second apron, but the expectation is that DeRozan will be the piece that pushes Sacramento forward.
In addition, DeRozan is one of the main names in the NBA with other rival franchises also were targeting his signature during NBA Free Agency. However, the Kings were the best option for DeRozan as he chose to ink a deal with them instead. Furthermore, DeRozan averaged 24 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in 79 games in 2023-24.
It’s interesting to note that, DeRozan will play with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, helping Sacramento become a legitimate Western Conference contender. Although fans must wait until the season starts to see DeRozan in a Kings jersey, they will undoubtedly cheer for their star and the rest of the roster throughout the next three seasons.
Demar DeRozan snubbed Lakers and Heat to sign for the Kings
Over the years, one of the finest players of the Chicago Bulls and the NBA DeMar DeRozan is changing teams, as he has signed for the Sacramento Kings for 3 years as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Notably, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat were also interested in the veteran but he snubbed both the sides for the Kings.
In addition, according to Wojnarowski, the Bulls will receive Chris Duarte, two second-round picks, and cash, while the Kings will send Harrison Barnes and an unprotected 2031 pick swap to the San Antonio Spurs. Also, according to Wojnarowski, DeRozan agreed to a three-year contract with Sacramento worth $74 million.
With DeRozan signing for the Kings, many of their fans will be expecting that their newest addition settles in quickly with his teammates. In addition, DeRozan is a professional scorer who has finished in the top 3 in Clutch Player of the Year voting over the last two seasons. A lot will be expected from the Kings in the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season after snatching one of the league’s top players.
