Canadian tennis player Denis Shapovalov is still coping with his default at the Citi Open last week. Nevertheless, he is not letting his on-court problems affect his personal life as Shapovalov celebrated his country’s relay sprinters gold medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He also took this opportunity to subtly hit back at American sprinter Noah Lyles for the latter’s demeaning behavior towards Canadian sprinters.
Before the start of the Summer Games, Lyles had downplayed the claims of the Canadian sprinters being a threat to the USA. Shapovalov has now hit back at the American sprinter by sharing a picture of Canadian relay sprinters on the podium with their gold medals along with a cheeky caption.

The Canadian relay race team of Tokyo 2020 200m gold medallist Andre de Grasse, Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, and Brendon Rodney won the gold medal in the 4x100m relay in Paris with a time of 37.5 seconds.
Meanwhile, the United States could not find a place on the podium as they were disqualified due to a botched changeover of batons. Noah Lyles could not even take part in the event after getting diagnosed with COVID-19.
Denis Shapovalov looks to find his groove after unfortunate default at Citi Open
Denis Shapovalov was defaulted at the Citi Open for swearing against a spectator during his match against Ben Shelton. He claimed that he could not sleep for two days following the incident.
Nevertheless, things returned to normal for Shapovalov as he got his ranking points and prize money, which were taken away after the default, reinstated after he appealed the decision. He later returned to action at the Canadian Open in Montreal, where he hopes to regain his confidence in front of the home crowd.
However, the 25-year-old suffered a shock 6-4, 7-5 defeat to Brandon Nakashima in the first round. While disappointed with the result, he expressed gratitude for the love he received from the fans. Shapovalov will now hope to get some momentum before heading into the 2024 US Open.
