Dennis Schroder ‘slavery’ rant goes viral as Warriors send $25 million star to Utah

Trade deals have characterized Dennis Schroder‘s NBA career. Schroder, currently in his 12th season as a professional, has been traded five times, most recently during the current campaign. This was when the Golden State Warriors acquired him on December 15, 2024, from the Brooklyn Nets. In addition, anybody who has played for eight franchises knows this time of year better than anyone else in a locker room full of whispers.

Dennis Schroder offered his thoughts on Luka Doncic’s trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this week. The former Warriors star surely did not mince his words in his recent take. Schroder linked the NBA’s actual status as a business that is comparable to slavery to the lack of ‘loyalty’ that teams have to their players.

“It’s like modern slavery. It’s modern slavery at the end of the day. Everybody can decide where you’re going, even if you have a contract. Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money and we can feed our families, but at the end of the day if they say, ‘You’re not coming to work tomorrow, you’re going over there,’ they can decide that. They got to change that a little bit.”

Interestingly, after Schroder made these remarks, the Warriors traded him the very next day. In addition, Andrew Wiggins and Kyle Anderson were traded to the Miami Heat in a multi-team trade that included Schroder, which sent Jimmy Butler to the Warriors. Later on, the Utah Jazz acquired Schroder. However, the German once stated that ‘he was happy’ to be in the Bay. Despite this, he has now been traded to the Jazz.

For Schroder, it wasn’t always like that. He has experienced the confusion, annoyance, or, to put it bluntly, the rage of seeing the names of his young teammates in trade speculations. As his career has developed, Schroder has experienced the same journey that some NBA veterans have.

Draymond Green wasn’t a big fan of Dennis Schroder’s ‘gameplay’ ever since his Warriors trade

After learning of the Dennis Schroder to Golden State Warriors trade deal, DubNation was undoubtedly overjoyed. Some, though, were never convinced by the proposition. Draymond Green, the seasoned defender for the Warriors, was one of them. The veteran was open about his feelings about Schroder joining the Bay.

We play a certain style of basketball that he does not really play. And I don’t think the goal is to get him to play the style of basketball that we play. We need someone that can do the things that he does and so I’m looking forward to us adjusting to him…. He’s a pro, he understands that.

Green’s words now come into play. This is because Schroder was dealt to the Utah Jazz two months after joining the Warriors. He didn’t make a big difference with Green and Stephen Curry, with the Warriors performing poorly throughout the past 2 months. As a result, the German was traded to a different team.
