NASCAR Introduced the Next-Gen cars in 2022 with the primary objectives of making competition closer and cheaper. Though they have been successful at this, it came at the cost of good short track racing product. The 7th Gen car and Goodyear tires weren’t as competitive as the have expected it to be at the short tracks.
Since then, NASCAR has been coming up with multiple tweaks to make the racing better, but none has hit the mark. Changes made to the tire at Bristol produced a great race in the regular season, but NASCAR and Goodyear failed to identify what made the difference, as the race remained a one off. Recently JGR veteran Denny Hamlin has made some bold comments of the tires.
He pointed out that the process of tire making at the moment is very imperfect and pointed out that Goodyear is showing too much tolerance, though they haven’t hit the mark each week. Hamlin comments highlight a lack of urgency from the top to fix the issues with the tiers and how much it needs to change to make entertaining racing for the fans.
Denny Hamlin admits the first two rounds’ of 2024 playoffs didn’t suit his skillset
Coming into the playoff, Denny Hamlin was considered a string contender for the championship, but he failed to continue the consistency from the regular season. The six races in the first two post-season rounds featuring four wild card races made it really trough for Denny Hamlin, as the road course races especially wasn’t his bets bids.
The veteran still has four more races left in the season to prove his worth. The all of them being short tracks, where he has thrived in the past, given him the best opportunity to do it. If the No:11 team and driver maximize on points and execute well, the championship is theirs to take.
