The 2024 racing season saw the teams and sanctioning body go head-to-head over the new charter deal. The negotiations went sideways when 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports refused to sign the new deal, while other teams did, and sue NASCAR alleging monopoly. They were able to win the initial court battles, including forcing them to let them race in 2025 via an injunction.
Now NASCAR has filed a countersuit against the team, alleging they violated anti-trust laws and orchestrated anticompetitive collective conduct, naming 23XI co-owner Curtis Polk as the instigator. NASCAR attorney Chris Yates took things to another level, when they questioned the integrity of the teams and claimed they don’t want the sport to grow in a recent interview.
NASCAR wants to work with teams to grow the sport. I don’t know if 23XI and Front Row truly want to grow the sport, so I don’t know what the path toward a resolution here is at the moment.
Chris Yates told The Athletic.
23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin, who has been outspoken about the court drama came across Yates’ comments on social media and shared his feelings about it. He pointed out at his autograph session at the Toyota GAZOO Racing merchandise hauler this weekend at COTA, highlighting how he is promoting the sport.
Come see me actively promoting and growing our sport this Saturday.
