NASCAR gave all 15 of its Cup teams a take it or leave it 2025-2031 charter agreement before the Bristol playoff race and all 13 of them signed. Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing and Ford team Front Row Motorsports refused to agree to the deal, claiming they didn’t give them a fair opportunity to counter the deal.
The teams then decided to file a federal anti-trust lawsuit, highlighting NASCAR’s monopolistic practices. This has invited mixed set of reactions from the racing community with some calling out the team for the lea gal actions. Now the team’s co-owner Denny Hamlin has come out to explain the clear intention behind the lawsuit.
He pointed out that the narrative that 23XI and FRM are threatening the status quo as well as the of people in the sport is incorrect. Hamlin doesn’t want to see this type of opinions coming out as their primary objective is to inspire a positive change in the sport that would benefit everyone involved in the premier stock car racing series.
The lawsuit will help Denny Hamlin to focus more on his racing
While further discussing the point, Denny Hamlin pointed out that having the legal drama out there helps him to be more focused on the No:11 JGR team. Previously he had a lot of stuff to deal with as an owner, now he doesn’t have to worry as it has taken the legal route which he doesn’t have much influence in.
If this is true, it might be in factor he needed to keep the distraction away and focus on winning the championship. It will be interesting to see if he can really do what he says, to perform on the high level in the last six races and secure his maiden NASCAR title.
