Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin and NBA legend Michael Jordan has long been close friends. Their friendship became a business relation when the built the 23XI Racing team as co-owners in 2021. Over the last three years they have been able elevate the team into consistent contenders for a race wins and a genuine championship contender.
Michale Jordan didn’t only hep Denny Hamlin to full fill his dreams of being a team owner but has also been a longtime supporter of him in his championship chases. The three times Daytona 500 winner recently discussed how the basketball legend supported him over the years in his unfulfilled quest for championship in a conversation with ex-racer Kenny Wallace.
Denny Hamlin pointed out via Kenny Conversation show that Jordan has been coming to cheer him every time he was in the championship fight at Homestead Miami. The veteran believes the NBA legend went out of his way to support him and has always told him the right things before the race to help him focus on the goal.
He’s always been such a big supporter of mine. You can go back to video of him coming to Homestead when I’ve been part of the championship battle for years and years. He’s always attended. Denny Hamlin didn’t know Michael Jordan grew up close to NASCAR
Before they became co-owner of 23XI Racing, Denny Hamlin didn’t know how much NASCAR has been part of Jordan when he grew up. He told Kenny Wallace that Jordan and his brother have been to many NASCAR events when they were children and he only got know about after they built the 23XI team.
I didn’t realize that his mom and dad used to take him to the NASCAR races when he was a kid, with his brothers and sisters. He went to Darlington, he went to Talladega, he went to Charlotte. A lot of the tracks that we go to still today. So that grew his passion for racing.Denny Hamlin said.
The partnership between the two has created one of the fastest growing teams in the sport that has invested a lot in the last few years. The team has a big ceiling and it would be interesting to see what is the future for 23XI Racing.
