Since its inception of the playoff format, it has been receiving a lot of criticism. One of the major issues the racing community has with the format is the fact that the playoff often doesn’t reward the most consistent driver of the season. Instead, the rewards are reaped by racers who peak at the right time.

With Kyle Larson, who won six races this season, missing out on the championship-4 following poor run in the R-8, criticism started pouring in yet again. But NASCAR is in denial about the criticism online and Managing Director Mike Forde’s conversation with Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin proves it.

[My race was] Similar to the spring. We were just fourth, fifth best, and that’s kind of where we were. I had track position at times, but when I was at our best handling-wise, it was just good enough to keep up, and that was it. We just haven’t had it for a couple years now, and we’ll go to work on it and try to figure out what we can do to come here in the spring and win.

The 23XI Racing co-owner though still have some championship hopes, as his driver Tyler Reddick in the finale to fight for the championship. It will be interesting to see how the Phoenix race would playout for the veteran.
