Coming into the first round of the post-season the tires were expected to make the races at Watkins Glen and the Bristol Motor Speedway entertaining and chaotic. But the NASCAR experts were wrong as the races turned out to be subpar with the Bristol night race last week even getting deemed as one of the worst in the history of the venue.

The Bristol race saw Kyle Larson dominating over 450 laps to secure the win, and the tires playing lasting longer than it shouldn’t. The regular season race Bristol in contrast saw significant tier wear unexpectedly, making it one of the best races in the sports history. So, to say fans expectations were shattered will be an understatement after last Sunday.

Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin, who has long been calling for less tier wear, was left unimpressed by the whole saga. He called out Goodyear, the tire manufacture for their outdated racing tier making process. The Toyota racer revealed that his crew and 23XI Racing crew got an opportunity visit the tier making process and they were shocked to see it.

What I hear is that where they make the racing tires is very antiquated versus how they make new street Goodyear tires. In the racing, I think that there is something with like unions and labor where they have to use more manpower…I’ve had people from my team, people from 23XI go and visit Goodyear and they were shocked at what they walked into.

Denny Hamlin claims Alex Bowman has the best shot at making it R-8 from HMS

The R-12 features all four of the Hendrick Motorsports drivers and one or two of them will most probably get eliminated in the round. According to Denny Hamlin. No:48 Chevy driver Alex Bowman is the one with the best shot of making it into the next round. This is despite the fact that the other three had been the better than the No:48 team.

Alex Bowman. Yeah, I’ll go Bowman. I think (he) has the most capability of speed. I think Kansas is a good race track for him. I think the Roval is good for him, and I think that at Talladega, he’s going to have some support, some Chevrolet support around him. So, my vote would go Bowman, as moving on.

It will be interesting to see which Hendrick Motorsports driver will make it to the next-round and if Denny Hamlin can join them as well. It will surely be a massive disappointment for the team if they can’t make it to the very next round.
