Cup Series teams and NASCAR has long been negotiating with each other to sign a new charter deal, as the current deal is coming to an end this year. As part of the new deal NASCAR has introduced change in the system that would limit team from owning more than three charters, with JGR and HMS getting special exemption.
But Joe Gibbs Racing’s driver Denny Hamlin doesn’t see it as the right path word’s parity. He pointed out that regardless of the rule’s changes, the top teams will always have the best cars, teams and drivers, making it impossible to stop them from continuing to dominate the way they have been doing for a vert long-time.
[NASCAR] is trying to. They’re trying everything they can. Parity, parity, parity, but it’s the same freaking three or four cars that are up front every single week. You’re not going to stop the best drivers, the best teams, the best crew chiefs, the best pit crews from being the best. You’re not going to stop that.Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.
The three times Daytona 500 winner also spoke about how slow the charter negotiation is going. He pointed out that he and the 23XI Racing team wants to see the negotiation coming to an end soon as the times runs out the owner’s group are hesitant to make future investments.
Denny Hamlin claims teams doesn’t want the new change
While talking about the same earlier on the same podcast, Denny Hamlin pointed out that during the period of negotiations no team has actually asked for the now preposed changes from NASCAR. He is indicating to the fact that it is one of the new changes NASCAR has come up with itself.
That’s just something that’s coming to a head now. We’ll see here shortly but again, there are things in the charter agreement that are changing that is being put in there by NASCAR that I don’t think the teams themselves actually requested.Denny Hamlin said.
The new proposal though seem weird isn’t counterproductive. Limiting teams from having four charters is the right call as some teams often expand beyond their capabilities and ends up hurting themselves.
