The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway witnessed some wild pit-stop moments that dictated the direction of the race. One of the hilarious incidents was the double pitting from Christopher Bell. His left rear tire wasn’t properly fitted in a pit-stop and he had pit again, and he came into his teammate Chase Briscoe’s pit box to get it done instead of his own.

Though NASCAR gave him a penalty, the smart move avoided a caution and also saved the TRD team some valuable time. JGR veteran Denny Hamlin talking about the incident via his podcast, hinted at possibility of NASCAR changing rules over the incident and urged the sanctioning body to not make any such move.

It’s not like there was no penalty, right? He still had to go to the back. So, I agree that I wouldn’t mess with it. Let’s not create another rule in the middle of the season.

During the same conversation, he also talked about making the situation fair if NASCAR let it happen again in the future. To give single car team and two car team the same opportunity by letting teams to use any pit crew from the same owner during the race.

Maybe you just at that point, you have an agreement with whoever owns your pit crew that you can stop in any of their stalls to get it done. That way it wouldn’t be detriment to being a single-car team, two-car team, whatever it might be.

Denny Hamlin highlights issues with NASCAR’s new rule change trend

One of the issues Denny Hamlin has seen over the years from NASCAR is the contestant rules changes that has been made over minor issues. These changes often cause inconsistent rulings as they have been made more vogue than it needs to be.

One of the trends in these changes was the addition of the phrase ‘at NASCAR’s discretion’ to most of the rule that gives NASCAR the power to interpret rules as they seem fit. But according to Hamlin it only created more issues.

That’s probably what my beef is with it is that it just, when you say, ‘But we can use our discretion,’ then you just open yourself up to just so many inconsistencies. And people are going to point out the inconsistencies. So, I don’t know.

What Chase Briscoe had to say about Christopher Bell’s move?

The No:19 Toyota driver Chase Briscoe was taken by surprise when his team helped Christopher Bell, as he didn’t know it was possible under the law. He sees it as a smart decision from the team as it helped them to save a lot of time.

Super heads up. Smart by the 20. You know, obviously I wish we could have done that with our tire. But yeah it was crazy. I didn’t even know you could do that, truthfully.

Chase Briscoe said.

It also avoided the suspension of the No:20 crew members. Briscoe had a lost tier issue on the same day that caused a caution flag and two race suspension of his crew members. So, if they knew this was possible, they wouldn’t have hesitated to do it.
