Denzel Washington has been on a press tour for his movie Gladiator II and recently made a stop on the Jimmy Kimmel Live Show. The renowned actor was asked by Jimmy Kimmel to give his views on the recent Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight.

Little did Kimmel know, he was about to have a surprising revelation. Washington and Tyson go way back, the Malcom X actor revealed. He did admit that he did not know the boxing legend personally and never hung out with him.

Consequently, Kimmel asked Washington to react to a couple of Tyson’s statements weeks prior to the match against Paul. The 58-year-old boxer had discussed the possibility of him smoking pot and/or doing mushrooms before the iconic match, which brought out an awkward laugh from Washington.

Mike is one of the all-time greats. And I’m glad he got paid.

When asked if he felt that Tyson was under any influence during the fight, Washington dismissed it. He has been a fan of the sport for a long time and even practices frequently. He even played the character of Rubin Carter, a boxer, in the 1999 film The Hurricane. The New York native engaged in relentless training and tedious routines to get in shape of Carter, eventually leading to him giving up due to health issues.

The Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul was one of the most anticipated and awaited boxing matches. It ended with Paul’s one-sided victory at a sold-out crowd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

However, as iconic as it was, the bout garnered much controversy. The spectators felt that the match was forcefully stretched to eight rounds when it could have ended in three. Additionally, the audience tuning in to watch it on Netflix faced several issues.

Mike Tyson reveals one special ingredient in his training regimen

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul were previously scheduled to fight in July. However, the former’s health issues pushed it to November. The legendary boxer likely went through an intense training session to get back in shape.

In an episode of the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast with Logan Paul, Tyson shed some light on his training regimen. He revealed that he always used psychedelic mushrooms to train for a fight. The statement naturally left Paul as well as co-host Mike Majlak speechless.

The 58-year-old boxer later pulled out a bag of spores to evidence his claim. Curious about it, the host asked if the boxing legend would be using the mushrooms the day of the fight with Paul.

To everybody’s surprise, Tyson left ambiguity in his plans to consume any substance. If he did consume something, it doesn’t break any rules as the US Anti-Doping Agency does not prohibit the use of ‘magic mushrooms’ during or before events.
