The heavyweight category of boxing is currently seen as the most thrilling in the game. Yet, there will be a gap left by the former WBC champion, Deontay Wilder, as he gets ready to step back into the ring after his next fight against Zhilei Zhang. Wilder has made it clear that he will retire if he loses his next bout. Before his 2022 return, Wilder had been absent from boxing for almost two years. Following that, he took on Joseph Parker and suffered a devastating defeat.
In discussing his devastating defeat, Wilder mentioned that his major mistake was his inactivity. The 38-year-old boxer was the obvious favorite heading into the match against Parker, yet he failed to perform well. Recovering both mentally and physically at his age would be challenging if he suffered another defeat.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ aims to regain his heavyweight championship title. However, spectators may not experience this exciting clash if he doesn’t succeed. This is because Wilder will hang his gloves up if he loses against Zhang.
However, Wilder mentioned that he had gone back to his prior self and only lost because he was at peace with himself. Subsequently, he remarked how being in that state of mind can be detrimental when you are at war. In addition, Wilder still aspires to become a unified heavyweight champion.
Potential fights Deontay Wilder wants to do
Though Wilder has predicted that he will retire if he loses, The Bronze Bomber remains optimistic about his chances of winning. This is because he believes he has been backed into the corner and is in a “do-or-die” situation in terms of his career.

However, even Zhang lost his last fight against Parker, which means he is also in a similar position. Regardless, Deontay Wilder believes he has tapped into his prior self and will “unleash the beast’ during his fight. In addition, the former WBC heavyweight champion spoke about several fights he would wish to do in the future.
The Bronze Bomber stated that he wants to fight boxers who he hasn’t fought till now. This means that a fourth fight against Fury is highly unlikely. However, it also means that he is aiming at fighting Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk, and other prominent heavyweight boxers.
