The Golden State Warriors and the DubNation witnessed one of the most dramatic matches of the 2024-25 NBA Cup. The Warriors faced off against the Houston Rockets away from home in the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup.

The Warriors tragically missed a ticket to Las Vegas after losing to the Rockets in the Emirates NBA Cup. Everything was going well for Steve Kerr and his Warriors side until the very last sequence of the match.

Jalen Green was sent to the line for two free throws after Jonathan Kuminga was called for a loose ball foul with only 3.5 seconds left on the clock. Both were sunk by Green and the Rockets prevailed 91-90. Interstingly, ahead of this matchup, Kerr made an interesting comment about the colors of the Rockets court

I told one of the coaches it felt like I was descending into the depths of hell. Deep, deep red hue on the floor. It’s a little disconcerting. I thought I had been better in my life. I didn’t think I deserved that fate.

Kerr’s worst nightmare turned true as he saw his Warriors side lose the semifinal place as well as the $500,000 prize money. While the team might blame the referees for some of the calls, they are also as much at fault for the defeat.

They only made 12 of 38 three-point attempts and tied a season-high of 22 assists. The game concluded on a 7-0 Rockets run, as the Warriors failed to score in the final three minutes.

Steve Kerr left stunned after Warriors’ NBA Cup loss to the Rockets

The Golden State Warriors were left in disbelief after what unfolded in the dying minutes of their game against the Houston Rockets. The Rockers were awarded two free throws after a foul by Jonathan Kuminga on Jalen Green during a loose ball.

In addition, this led to the Rockets winning the matchup by just one point. This left Warriors head coach Steve Kerr stunned by the referee’s call.

I don’t even understand what just happened. Loose ball, diving on the floor, 80 feet away from the basket. Just give them a timeout and let the players decide the game.

Steve Kerr said after the match

As for the Rockets, Alperen Sengun led the scoring with 26 points and 11 rebounds against the Warriors. He was backed by Jabari Smith Jr. (15 points) and Green (12 points), leading their side to an important win over the Warriors. On Saturday, December 14, the Rockets will travel to Las Vegas to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Cup semifinals.
