Derek Carr kicked off the post-Dennis Allen era in the New Orleans Saints with a victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Even though Allen is no longer in the office, Carr isn’t ready to forget his former head coach just yet.

The Saints-Falcons game saw several narratives. It was a fresh start for the home team, as the only way they can go now is up because they are no longer in the playoff run. So Carr made sure to make a swift start.

He was missing Chris Olave, so up stepped new signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The Carr and MVS duo connected for a couple of touchdowns while the Falcons’ QB Kirk Cousins struggled to get going. Cousins only completed 60% of his passes and threw an interception.

The outcome was reminiscent of the Saints’ first two games in which they blew over the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys. During the post-game interview, Carr gave a shoutout to Dennis Allen.

We just want to win. Our city deserves a winner, and that’s all we want to do. So shoutout to DA [Dennis Allen] because he helped us build this. I know he wasn’t here today, and I know [Darren] Rizzi will say the same thing.

Saints fans can’t believe Derek Carr is still hung over on Dennis Allen

Carr isn’t exactly a popular figure in New Orleans. Despite moving to death-valley from Vegas last year, he has yet to win over the fans.

When he arrived in Louisiana, many of the locals thought they finally found their Drew Brees replacement. He led the Saints to a 9-8 record last year but narrowly missed out on postseason football.

Allen set out to do better this year, but everything fell apart from the third game, eventually ending his tenure as the head coach. Despite his expulsion, Carr believes that the 52-year-old laid the foundation of the current squad.

Shoutout to DA because he helped pave the way for us. And so, DA we love ya, but happy for Rizz too, that’s his first win. Hopefully, that gets us back on track.

This statement ticked off the Saints fans.

Allen only ever recorded one .500 season and that was Carr’s first year at the Super Dome. He constantly ranked among the bottom feeders of the coaching world. In total (Raiders and Saints), he managed 79 matches as a head coach, losing 53 and winning just 26.
