New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter was not very pleased with David Ortiz during World Series Game 4 and Game 5. Both Jeter and Yanks shortstop Anthony Volpe got their personal ‘My Dawg’ t-shirt from Ortiz.

Ortiz seemed very pleased with Volpe’s performance in Game 4 and put the shirt on his shoulder during a talk with the Fox analysts. While the 23-year-old seemed a bit conflicted, considering the Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox rivalry, Jeter was adamant in his stance.

He immediately told Anthony Volpe to throw it away, “No, no, don’t take that,” as the trio joked about the situation. When asked later what he did with his shirt, he coyly replied,

It’s yet to be determined what I’ll do. I got it in my locker. I can’t wear it, it’s got him in Red Sox stuff on it.

Later in Game 5, David Ortiz presented another set of ‘My Dawg’ t-shirts to his co-hosts Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez. While A-Rod checked out his shirt, saying, “We’ve been waiting for this for years,” Jeter instantly threw it off the table.

His prompt reaction to receiving a Red Sox stuff created a light-hearted moment for the MLB fans. It also was a callback to how bitter the Yankees vs. Red Sox rivalry was back in the day.

David Ortiz dreams about Red Sox’s World Series participation in 2025

While discussing the New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Dodgers World Series game, David Ortiz was reminded of his former team – the Boston Red Sox. Looking back, he spoke about how he wishes the team advanced to the Fall Classic once since it’s been six years.

Ortiz said they need to get better players and build a team that is good all around. While manager Alex Cora tries his best, the team needs more offensive power in the lineup.

It’s been six years now [since the Sox were in the Series], right?… How many years has it been since they were in the playoffs? It’s tough, man. The fans get tired of it…You’ve got to get better.

He also spoke about Juan Soto’s free agency, noting how the outfielder may want to remain in NY. In recent and even in past interviews, Soto has always talked about how much he loves New York and its people.

These brought discussions on how he may not want to sign with a team out of NY. The two teams with the highest chance of getting him are the New York Yankees and the New York Mets. It’s yet to see which path he’ll choose in the upcoming free agency.
