The “America’s team” hasn’t won a Super Bowl in years, but if there was an award for the laziest team in the offseason, they would have won one in 2024. Despite a glaring need in the position, Jerry Jones overlooked the need for Derrick Henry and let him walk away with free agency due to lack of funds.
After being let off from the Cowboys, Henry signed with the Baltimore Ravens in the off-season. In Week 3, Henry also got an opportunity to remind the Cowboys what they missed out on. He managed 151 rushing yards with two touchdowns in the 28-25 win against the Cowboys. In light of the first win of the season, Henry had some words for Jones and the Cowboys.
I hold myself to a high standard. I definitely wanted to come out here and be able to have an impact to give us a chance to win by the way I played. Being in Dallas, this is where the offseason is where I spend most of my time in the offseason. It felt a little good today for sure.Derrick Henry said, via the team’s website
The GM faced the most criticism when it came to re-signing key players, resulting in holdouts and threats of players leaving. Recently, he also made headlines by sharing some colorful details during a live stream with actor Jamie Foxx.
Henry has been actively focusing on bettering himself in the offseason with extravagant spending to maintain his shape. Often called, “King Henry”, Derrick Henry is one of the most built running backs in the league. He maintains a habit of not allowing any fried food, gluten, preservatives, dairy, and artificial sugars into his body.
The Ravens maintained a solid run game against the Cowboys, leading at all times. The victory has propelled them into a second position in the AFC North behind the Steelers. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are struggling in the NFC East with the Washington Commanders placed better than them.
Derrick Henry showers credit on the Ravens’ O-line
Derrick Henry had only words of praise for his new offensive line, which secured their first win of the season. He said that the win happened because of their offensive line.
They did a great job, I’d been challenging them all week. I was like, ‘Just come off the ball and let’s get it started early.’ The guys did a great job, they took that to heart and played their a***s off. I’m very proud of them.Derrick Henry said in an interview with Tom Brady
The Ravens managed a whopping 274 rushing yards in a moody Dallas night. The starting QB Lamar Jackson ran for 87 and Justice Hill had 33. All three of the Ravens’ top runners averaged at least 6.0 yards per carry against a passable and flawed Cowboys defense.
The running back Henry told his team that their successes are tied together, and he believes that they delivered on it. He even spent some extra time after practice to get plays in sync with the offensive linebackers.
