As Lamar Jackson pursues his second consecutive MVP award, many attribute his success this season to running back Derrick Henry. However, if you ask Henry, he will point to Jackson as the key to his own impressive performance, which includes the league’s second-best 1,921 yards and a tie for the best with 16 rushing touchdowns.

In a powerful endorsement of his teammate, the Baltimore Ravens star running back showered high praises on the quarterback for his exceptional performance during the 2024 season. With Jackson leading the charge and putting together a compelling MVP case for himself, Henry emphasized that their successes are intertwined, rather than competitive.

You can put anybody by Lamar, and they’re going to have a hell of a year. It’s just the type of player that he is. My success shouldn’t knock his, or vice versa. Lamar is the main reason why I came here. It was to play with a Hall of Fame quarterback.

Derrick Henry said in a conversation with Ravens Vault’s Sarah Ellison

The quarterback-running back duo this season put together the highest combined rushing yards in the NFL with 2,836 yards. While Henry brought in 1,921 yards, the remaining 915 rushing yards were posted by the quarterback besides his 4,172 yards, 41 touchdowns, and four interceptions.

I feel like Lamar – in his case – I feel like his stats can be even better. I feel like he’s the best player in the league, and it’s only going to get better from here. I don’t feel like what I’ve done should hurt him. I feel like he’s helped me even more.

Regardless of the comparison debate between Henry and Jackson, the two demonstrated themselves as one of the most dynamic duos in the league. With a 12-5 record and an AFC North title, they are now preparing to dominate in the playoffs, starting with the Wild-Card game scheduled for the upcoming Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
