A frustrated Derrick Henry nearly smashed his helmet into pieces following a fumble against the Detroit Lions. It played a pivotal role in the outcome.
The Lions arrived in Baltimore as the underdogs, and yet the NFC club led by four points with eight minutes until the final whistle.
Henry’s poor form from the week two win rolled over to the Monday Night fixture against Detroit. He scored a touchdown but barely crossed 50 yards on 10+ carries.
Despite the rough night, quarterback Lamar Jackson trusted his star running back with the ball inside the Ravens’ 25-yard line. Henry received the ball to slip past the first Lions marker.
However, Lions pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson smashed the ball out of Henry’s grasp from his blind spot to force a fumble. A Lions player pounced on the loose ball to secure possession.
While the broadcast replayed the fumble, cameras caught agitated scenes inside the Ravens’ dugout. Derrick Henry lost his cool. He banged his helmet on the table stand before plunging his body onto the seating area.
Henry is going through a bad spell in terms of fumbling the football at crucial moments. His fumble with three minutes left in week one allowed the Buffalo Bills to make a comeback despite trailing by eight points.
The following week, the Cleveland Browns’ rookie Carson Schwesinger forced Henry’s second fumble of the campaign. Fortunately, it was less severe compared to the Bills’ one, as Tylan Wallace was able to recover the ball before any of the Browns players could.
Derrick Henry’s fumble expedites the Ravens’ loss
Analysts viewed the Ravens as the overwhelming favorites to beat last year’s NFC North champions after securing a crushing victory over the Browns in week two.

Jackson was finally hitting the stride that is expected of him. However, the Ravens fell behind early on through a one-yard touchdown run by the Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
The Ravens’ reply took less than four minutes and only six plays. Jackson set up Henry for a 28-yard run to end the first quarter, all square.
Detroit hit back immediately in the second quarter through David Montgomery. The veteran rusher walked in from one yard. Five minutes later, Jackson hit wide receiver Rashod Bateman for a 3-yard score, and six minutes after the break, they took their first lead of the night through tight end Mark Andrews’ 14-yard touchdown play.
Lions QB Jared Goff, who maintained a 70% pass completion rate, connected with Amon-Ra St. Brown for an 18-yard score and then set up Gibbs for his second right at the beginning of the final quarter.
Tyler Loop and Jake Bates exchanged field goals on either side of the Henry fumble. Montgomery’s 31-yard touchdown run after the two-minute warning extended the Lions’ lead by fourteen points, and Andrews’ second TD catch at the death mattered little to the final result. The game ended in a 38-30 win for the Lions, improving their season record to 2-1, while the Ravens fell to 1-2.

Goff contributed 20 completions from 28 for 202 yards (71%) and one passing touchdown. Montgomery amassed 12 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns, and Gibbs had 22 carries for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns.
