After the tightly contested race with Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills earned the title of NFL MVP award this season. However, not everyone seems satisfied with the results as Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens bluntly asserted that his teammate was more deserving of the title than Allen.
As Jackson was selected as the first-team All-Pro quarterback, everyone expected him to win the MVP award as well, given the voters for both the NFL honors were the same. However, the announcement of the Bills quarterback as the winner at the NFL Honors Award Ceremony surprised many, perhaps most of all Jackson’s teammate, Henry.
While appearing on Micah Parsons’ podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons, the Ravens’ star running back stated that Jackson had the best season of his career in 2024, and purely from that point of view without any bias towards him, he deserved the MVP award more than anyone.
Of course, I’m going to be a little biased toward Lamar because he’s my teammate. I just thought it was a no-brainer that he should’ve won. 41 touchdowns, four interceptions, almost 1,000 [rushing] yards.

While Jackson undeniably surpassed Allen in the category of stats, the latter did outscore him in a specific or rather most crucial category– the wins. As the Ravens went home with at the divisional round after a defeat at the hands of the Bills, Allen helped his team advance to the AFC Championship game against the two-time defending champions.
Jonathan Ogden rejects Josh Allen’s MVP win, claiming sympathy vote
Interestingly, Henry isn’t only in disbelief at Allen’s victory. Hall of Famer Jonathan Ogden has refused to even accept the Bills quarterback as the 2024 NFL MVP. While rejecting him, Ogden bluntly claimed that the only reason why Allen won was out of sympathy as he dropped to the lowest postseason wins after the fourth elimination by the Chiefs.

I get it, because [Josh] is a great quarterback. He hadn’t won one. Lamar had two. And they’re like, ‘Let’s just give him one.’ But that’s the wrong reason. What are you going to do? They made the wrong choice. But that’s all good.

He reinforced Henry’s words that Allen’s success wasn’t even close to the season Jackson had in 2024 and for that, the two-time NFL MVP deserved the title more than Allen. Regardless, the season ended with Allen engraving his name in the history of the league.
