The Cleveland Browns made a major gamble when they offered Deshaun Watson a $230 million contract with a guaranteed sum. Two years have passed since the contract went through and the organization has landed on the wrong side of history, as Watson has not lived up to the team’s standards.
The Cleveland Browns sit at the bottom of the AFC North through six weeks with a 1-5 record. Deshaun Watson’s numbers are a blaring red flag, yet head coach Kevin Stefanski is not ready to pull the plug on his QB just yet.
While addressing the media after the 20-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Stefanski expressed his faith in Watson. The head coach is not ready to turn to backup QB Jameis Winston and intends to stick with Watson.
His response is not surprising as he has had Watson’s back in the past few weeks despite the quarterback’s underwhelming performance.
The Cleveland Browns have the worst offense in the NFL under Deshaun Watson
As per FOX Sports, the Browns rank 32nd in terms of total offense in the NFL, averaging 239.4 yards per game. They rank 30th overall in the NFL in terms of passing offense with an average of 142.8 yards per game. The pass game for the Browns has been dismal and Watson is now a shell of a player he was during his final season with the Houston Texans.
After six games, Deshaun Watson ranks last in the NFL with a success rate of 33.3 percent behind Will Levis, Bo Nix, and Andy Dalton. He has a QBR ranking of 21.5, the lowest in the NFL, and has had games wherein his QBR went into the single-digit range this season.

“I think Deshaun gives us the best chance to win, continues to give us the best chance to win, and we need to play really good offensive football at his position, and really at…
The quarterback has 1,020 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions so far this season. In his defense, however, the Browns have a part to play in his failure.
The team has put him behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league. Watson has taken 31 sacks this season, the highest in the NFL. The quarterback is unable to get the time to throw because, by the time he finds an open receiver, he ends up being brought down by a lineman.
Jameis Winston is unlikely to have a bigger impact than Watson behind this O-line, so it makes sense that Kevin Stefanski is reluctant to pull Watson out at this juncture of the season.
