Milwaukee Bucks's Head Coach Doc Rivers
The Milwaukee Bucks, under coach Doc Rivers, have started the season 1-6 and are ranked 15th in the Eastern Conference. Despite this poor start coach Rivers has remained optimistic about making the playoffs.
Fans have found this level of confidence from Doc Rivers out of the ordinary, as historically, teams with a 1-6 or worse start have struggled to make the playoffs. Only 12 out of 150 teams have achieved this feat since 1970.
However, if they are to look at recent examples, such as the 2022-23 Los Angeles Lakers, then there might be cause to believe. All said, Rivers spoke with confidence about his team’s chances.
We will make the playoffs. I’m not worried about that. The team’s very positive. I think they’re upbeat. No one wants to lose. We have some tough games coming up, but one win at a time. We win three or four in a row and then the numbers say if you’re 5-6 after that, you have an 80 percent chance to make the playoffs, you know?

The Bucks’ struggles can also be attributed to injuries that have sidelined Giannis Antetokounmpo (adductor) and Khris Middleton (double-ankle surgery). While the Greek Freak’s return date is known, Middleton’s return timeline remains uncertain.
They know they have to step up immediately and that starts with a must-win game against the Utah Jazz, followed by tough matchups against the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics. Despite challenges and Doc Rivers’ confidence, the Play-in Tournament offers a safety net.
Baron Davis points finger at Doc Rivers for Bucks’ slow start
While injuries have played a role in the Milwaukee Bucks’ tepid start to the season, sloppy play on both offense and defense has also hindered the team’s progress. The lack of chemistry between stars Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo is another factor in it.
Former NBA star Baron Davis placed the blame squarely on Doc Rivers during an appearance on The Draymond Green Show. Davis’ criticism comes amidst growing scrutiny of Rivers’ decision-making and playoff performances.
A Doc Rivers team is a beatable team. I don’t give a f*** how much talent they got.

While Rivers led the Boston Celtics to a title in 2008, his teams have consistently fallen short in the postseason since then. Now the onus is on him to deliver, which might not just save his reputation but also prevent the rumored exit of their two-time former MVP Antetokounmpo.
