Shedeur Sanders doesn’t have to worry too much about recouping the money he is set to lose due to being drafted in the fifth round. His jersey is selling like Cinnabon’s cinnamon rolls.
The three-day NFL draft affair in Green Bay ended with the Cleveland Browns selecting Sanders 144th overall on the penultimate day. As a result, he will no longer be able to earn as he did in Colorado.
His NIL valuation stood at $5.1 million in his final year at college. However, Spotrac projected Sanders will make a similar amount over four years—if he’s still around in Cleveland, that is.
Legendary NFL wide receiver Cris Carter showed strong dissatisfaction over Deion Sanders’ son slipping down the order. From his point of view, the draft cost Sanders between $30 and $50 million.
They overplayed their hand…You don’t play football all the time. You’re a human being the rest of the time—and how you are in the locker room matters… They taught him a lesson. You didn’t have this figured out; your dad didn’t have tissues figured out… He threw away at least thirty to fifty million dollars.
Cris Carter said
Sanders may have to fight his way to stay in the Browns squad, but he’s currently the undisputed rookie king in terms of selling jerseys. According to Darren Rovell,
“A short and a long sleeve T-shirt and a hoodie—that were on his ‘2Legendary’ site were marked ‘sold out’ as of Wednesday morning.“
“Fanatics confirmed to collect Wednesday that [Shedeur] Sanders now has the No. 1 selling jersey among all 2025 draft picks across the company’s network of sites, including the NFL Shop and the Cleveland Browns’ official shop.”

Sanders’ draft slide will undoubtedly be one of the greatest moments in NFL history. Analysts, insiders, and former players are still figuring out the reason behind the slip. Some blamed Prime Time, while others argued it was Shedeur’s attitude when meeting with NFL executives at the scouting combine that painted a bad picture.

During the recent episode of the New Heights podcast, superstar Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce sided with Sanders.
“That’s so f**** lame [man]… What I saw of the film, I thought he was a way higher pick, and that’s all I think should matter. It doesn’t seem like he’s a terrible person,” Travis Kelce said.
Kelce experienced a slump in his draft year as well because of a troubled college life. The Chiefs took him in the third round and went on to win three Super Bowls. Kelce, a Cleveland native, is confident that being drafted by the Browns will give Sanders a fresh start. He can carve out a good career.
“I love this for Cleveland [man], I really do. The Browns fan deep down in my heart is like, ‘F*** yeah.’ You get a swag champ that works his a** off that has something to prove now,” Travis Kelce said.

Sanders has a tough hill to climb when the off-season camp starts at the Browns’ facility. He has to beat out two NFL veterans and fellow rookies to save his NFL career.
The good news is that the Browns will provide an equal chance. He has until August 29 to prove that he can cut it in the NFL, and his 74% pass completion in 2024 for Colorado wasn’t a fluke.
