The New York Jets’ 2024 campaign came crashing down after Week 14’s loss to the Miami Dolphins which officially eliminated them from the playoffs contention. However, just because they are no longer chasing a postseason berth doesn’t mean the players could lose their fighting spirit as Aaron Rodgers asserted.
After another humiliating loss– which marked their 11th defeat of the season, the veteran quarterback was utterly disappointed in his team. Even though the Jets didn’t turn punt in the entire game, their offense was severely compromised by three turnovers, missed a field goal, and a fumble by the four-time NFL MVP that staged their opponent’s game-winning touchdown.
In the post-game press conference, when Rodgers appeared before the media to talk about the team’s mindset moving forward, he decided to use the opportunity to send a stern message to his teammates concerning their future on the roster amid speculations about his own future.

"You gotta figure out what it means to be a professional. That's an important part of building culture. The last two weeks we can really see who's on board moving forward and who is ready to get out."

The veteran signal-caller indirectly claimed that the Jets might be considering releasing certain players who they believe have given up on the team. During their time of crises, he shared the desire to end the season “like a pro” which might appear delusional amid the 4-11 season struggle.
Aaron Rodgers faces uncertainty as Jets’ future hangs in the balance
Rodgers reflecting on the uncertainties regarding his teammates’ future in New York appears quite ironic considering the looming clouds over his head. ESPN’s Diana Russini previously reported conflict inside the Jets organization as owner Woody Johnson wanted to bench Rodgers in the middle of the season.
Interestingly, he was convinced otherwise by then-General Manager Joe Douglas, who has since been let go. The looming clouds over the ten-time Pro Bowler’s head have darkened after being a part of losing team and yet another playoff setback.
Amid the speculations, Rodgers has expressed his desire to stay with the Jets until his retirement in the coming few years. However, he knows that the ultimate decision-making power is in the hands of the franchise and all he can do now is wait and give his best on the field.
