The fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is a massive fight that has a lot of historical significance for the sport. Undisputed fights are often held in different divisions, but after 1999, an undisputed heavyweight fight did not occur. Hence, the last undisputed champion was Lennox Lewis, who defeated Evander Holyfield. Furthermore, the former champion has now revealed his prediction for the highly anticipated fight between Fury and Usyk.

After Fury’s performance in his last fight against Francis Ngannou, the boxing community has started to doubt him. This is because the undefeated WBC champion won via a controversial split decision. Furthermore, the fight between Fury and Usyk was postponed twice. This led people to assume that he is scared and needed more time to prepare. Regardless, Lewis firmly believes that Fury will win the upcoming fight, despite being the underdog.

As such, Lewis believes that Fury is in incredible shape ahead of this fight compared to his last bout. Furthermore, The Gypsy King has the advantage of size, and Lewis believes that this will help him immensely. Hence, the former champion predicted that Fury would win via points.

The fight between them is also significant since the WBO was not a recognized sanctioning body during the last undisputed clash. Hence, this will be the first time an undisputed heavyweight champion is crowned in the four-belt era.

The Last Undisputed Heavyweight Fight

Lewis and Evander Holyfield entered the ring on March 13, 1999, to fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship. At the time, the fight was going to unify the IBF, WBA, and WBC heavyweight titles. However, their highly competitive fight ended with a draw. This resulted in a rematch later that year.

The two heavyweights entered the ring eight months later, on November 13, 1999, to determine the undisputed champion again. This time Lennox Lewis was able to remain dominant from the get-go and controlled the fight with his jabs. Holyfield still tried to pressure through it but had to maintain his distance.

Hence, Lewis was able to tactfully deal with and neutralize Holyfield’s attacks with a strategic approach in their rematch. However, Holyfield’s resilience was quite commendable, even though he couldn’t emerge victorious. In the end, Lewis won via unanimous decision and became the undisputed heavyweight champion.
