Despite throwing taunts, Draymond Green has surprising comments for Jordan Poole

Draymond Green and Jordan Poole had a rocky relationship

Draymond Green and Jordan Poole have a perplexing relationship off the court. A Michigan Wolverine can never get along with a Michigan State Spartan – as the CFB adage goes. However, the two got along well on the Warriors before a punch from Green pushed Poole away from the Dubs.

Even through their difficulties, Green had some surprising words for Poole. The Golden State Warriors defeated the Washington Wizards 125-112 in a game that saw Stephen Curry make his comeback from injury.

However, the underlying storyline of the game was the rivalry between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole. The latter finished the game with 24 points, three assists, and three steals, prompting some surprising comments by Warriors veteran Green.

Last year he was pressing a lot, he’s not taking some of the shots he was taking last year, it was bad shots and this year he’s a lot more settled in.

Draymond Green told reporters

When asked about the growth of Jordan Poole, who is in his second year with the Wizards, Green gave a candid response. He detailed Poole’s early struggles last season. After being traded by the Warriors in 2023, the 25-year-old finished his first year with the Wizards averaging 17.4 points and 4.4 assists on just 41.4% shooting.

However, Poole’s scoring and efficiency have seen a notable bump this season. The Wizards youngster has taken control of the team’s offense so far, averaging 22.5 points and 5.0 assists on nearly 45% shooting from the field in the first six games of the season. Green had high praise for his former teammate despite their troubled relationship.

Draymond Green showers young Wizards with praise

Although the Golden State Warriors pulled away from DC with a win, the young Wizards team left a mark on Draymond Green. The savvy veteran is infamous for his trash-talk on the court.

Throughout the game, Green was seen jawing with the young Wizards, especially Jordan Poole and Kyshawn George. Following the game, Green addressed the energy of the upcoming DC squad.

That’s the first time we’ve seen a Washington Wizards team play that hard in years, and it’s because of [Bub and Kyshawn’s] energy.

Draymond Green said in his postgame interview

Green was pleased by the competitive spirit and fire in the Washington Wizards team. He praised their grit and hustle, especially as the Wizards pulled within single digits of the Warriors in the fourth quarter. The 34-year-old had more praise for Poole, calling his former teammate “an incredible leader and role model” for the rookies.
