Despite wanting to play for Cowboys, Ashton Jeanty doesn’t mind being paired up with 5’10” Kyler Murray

Ashton Jeanty is close to the Heisman and any team would be glad to have the best college football player on their team, certainly Kyler Murray's Cardinals.

Ashton Jeanty keeps dropping hints about his favorite destinations to play when he joins the NFL. The latest team Jeanty fancies is Kyler Murray’s Arizona Cardinals.

During a recent live stream, the Bosie State Broncos running back admired Murray’s playstyle and said that he wouldn’t mind slotting in behind the league’s shortest starting quarterback.

I could get down with Kyler [Murray]. We’re gonna be the shortest backfield in the NFL, you know what I’m saying?

Ashton Jeanty said

Arizona isn’t the only place he has eyes for. Jeanty also mentioned the Dallas Cowboys, as his family lives in Dallas, and the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Any team will relish the chance to field a rusher who is close to breaking Hall of Famer Barry Sanders’ college football rushing yards record.

Jeanty currently has 1,734 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns through nine games, leading the Broncos to an 8-1 record. To make him eclipse Sanders’, they are even giving the 20-year-old additional reps compared to earlier in the season, when he sat out the second half during several games.

Ashton Jeanty is also among the favorites for the 2024 Heisman Trophy. According to Sports Illustrated, Jeanty has the third-best odds of becoming the best player in college football and the first running back since Alabama’s Derrick Henry.

  • Travis Hunter, Colorado: +125
  • Dillon Gabriel, Oregon: +325
  • Ashton Jeanty, Boise State: +350
  • Cam Ward, Miami (Florida): +800
  • Kurtis Rourke, Indiana: +1400
  • Jalen Milroe, Alabama: +1800
  • Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss: +2000

Can the Arizona Cardinals draft Ashton Jeanty?

The Cardinals would be an interesting place for Jeanty to play. It will only mean more weapons for Murray, who has flourished alongside rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Even though they were 2-4 after six weeks, they are currently 6-4 and sit at the top of the NFC West after winning four straight games (Chargers, Dolphins, Bears, and Jets).

James Conner held down his place as the No. 1 running back for the Cardinals. The two-time Pro-Bowler has 90 carries for 403 yards and 3 touchdowns in six games. However, Conner’s contract runs out after this season, opening up a spot for the Cardinals to think about.

With the recent shift in the Cardinals’ form, it may become difficult for them to draft Jeanty if they end up playing post-season football. There’s still a possibility, as running back is a skill position only required when in demand. If the Cardinals let Conner leave, then perhaps they can trade a few picks to move up and draft him.

Kyler Murray has completed 2058 yards, 12 passing touchdowns, and three interceptions, along with 46 carries for 371 yards and four rushing touchdowns, so far. Jeanty can prove to be a great compliment to Murray’s strengths.
